What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe everyone can learn. I believe it comes down to figuring out how an individual learns and being creative in teaching. I think it is important to try to make the subject relatable and relative to the student and their life.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Introduce myself and tell them a bit about myself. Ask them a few questions about themselves. Ask them to think of their favorite teacher and why they liked that teacher. I would also want to know about a teacher that they weren't so fond of and ask them about that.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I think students can be driven to be independent learners as they gain confidence in their own skills. This happens sometimes in little steps as they see their own progress. Little challenges along the way help to push a student towards meeting their goals.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Remind them of where they started, what they have learned, and what they know and have gained in their skills. Remind them of their goals and where they want to go or what they want to achieve.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try to come up with a different way to teach it. Try to break it down into steps, and try to find a way to relate it to something that is real to the student.
