Tutors have played an important role throughout my academic career. Tutoring is a way of giving back and paying it forward. My family came to the United States when I was 10 yrs old. Without previous knowledge of the English language, I had a tough time communicating with others. With the help of great teachers and tutors, I was able to challenge myself during my time in ESL/ELL. By the time I was in high school, I was taking grade-level English classes among other classes. My confidence increased and by the time I was a senior in high school, I was able to take AP English and pass the AP exam! Now I am graduate from the University of California Riverside with a degree in Biology. I discovered my passion for the sciences in high school. Since I am the eldest of 11, I tutor my siblings whose grade-levels range from elementary to college. In my free time, I love to play sports (basketball, soccer, American football, etc). I will say that I am not good at golf. I also enjoy reading articles online, and novels (both fiction and nonfiction).

What is your teaching philosophy?
Become a support system for the student. The student does the work and I guide them through the process.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
5-minute introductions and then get to work.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Ask them questions regarding the steps they are taking to answer the homework problems. This is an effort to make the student conscious of his reasoning process.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Constantly be positive and encouraging.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Explain it in ways that might make sense to him, using analogies and such.
