What is your teaching philosophy?

Learning should be a fun experience. I would like to equip the students with the skills that he/she can take away beyond the standardized test prep.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will have the student do a diagnostic test to have an understanding of their baseline score. Then I will discuss with the student on his/her target score to determine the length of tutoring he/she will need to achieve the target score.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

During the tutoring session, I will lead the students to derive the answers to the practice questions. This way, he will be able to follow a similar logic to solve other similar type of questions.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will praise the student for any good points he/she makes to motivate them. I will also make positive remarks even, when the student makes mistakes.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will try my best to teach the concept in different ways to best help the student understand.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I will have an initial informal chat to get to know the student personally. Also, I will arrange the tutoring sessions in a cafe or an environment that will help the student relax.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I will make sure to have the students start practicing easier questions on a certain concept to build his/her confidence before moving on to the more advanced questions.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

From the diagnostic tests, I will understand the area I should focus on with the student. So, I can focus tutoring on the relative weaker areas with them.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I typically will use the questions bank online, as well as official guide materials.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Sometimes it is better to change subjects when the student is struggling with a certain topic, and then come back to that topic when the student has a fresh mind and boosted confidence.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will teach the material in a conceptual manner, and then accompany the leaning with lots of practice questions to put the learning into use.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I will understand the student's target score first, then evaluate his/her baseline score to identify the weaker areas of the subject.
