Julie: Akron tutor

Certified Tutor

I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a BA in Applied Linguistics, and am currently enrolled in my MAT program at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. My teaching experience is very diverse, beginning with teaching ESL to refugees through World Relief and the World Trade Center to teaching English to Japanese high school students in Japan. I have been homeschooling for 15 years while developing and teaching a Latin program at a local private school for grades 5-9. I have spent several years as a phonics and reading tutor for early readers as well.

I am passionate about helping each of my students develop a love of learning, self-confidence and success in and out of the classroom. My greatest joy is helping to unlock a student's potential through literacy and language. I believe reading and writing create exciting opportunities for each student to accomplish great things! My experiences learning Ancient Greek, Latin and French have given me great tools to help students identify and solve the problems that hinder learning. With an eclectic teaching style, I learn to best identify and help my students depending on their needs, learning styles, and goals.
