I am a graduate from the University of Rochester with a Bachelors of Arts in Public Health. I am a native Spanish speaker and love helping others to learn one of the world's most popular language with about 470 million speakers! Learning another language is one of the most valuable skills a person can have and it gives you an advantage in the workforce. I have been tutoring my peers for a long time and I understand the hardships someone has when learning a new language. However, with the proper guidance learning Spanish or any other language can be a fun and exciting journey.
Other than learning Spanish my hobbies include: reading, traveling and anything that has to do with New York City.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe in complete immersion. This is the best way to learn any language, especially Spanish. This may seem a bit overwhelming, but the outcome is complete understanding of your surroundings!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
First sessions are all about introductions and assessing their level with questions. These questions would vary from beginner to near fluency, depending on their ability.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
As a tutor, I recommend certain resources and guides for students to use. These resources can help them learn on their own when there is no tutor available to help them. Another option would be to try and start reading or watching TV in the particular language interested. All of the aforementioned would help students become independent learners.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Motivation and discipline are key in learning any language and improving on other subjects. Words of encouragement and baby steps help students keep their eye on the prize. Learning a new language can be frustrating so it's important to not overwhelm students with too much information because that can definitely cause some loss of motivation.
