Certified Tutor
Business, Finance and Accounting has been a passion of mine since I was 12 years old. I first had the idea of becoming a CPA Accountant with an International Law Degree when I was 12 at my extended family's Thanksgiving dinner. A good family friend of my Grandma owns his own business, and he asked me what I wanted to become when I finish school. I answered right away. Life took me though in a different direction but my goal of my dream job is still my goal. I believe that persistence, motivation, and encouragement has still kept me on the right path. I hope with tutoring other individuals I can help the achieve their goals and stay on their target path.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I will try to find out how the student likes to learn. Some students like the extra guidance or sample problems to help them learn, or they may prefer using real life examples.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would try to get to know the student more and have the student ask me questions about myself. I would like to know what the student enjoys during his/her free time. With tutoring, the student may need rewards, so knowing what their favorites are allows you to use them as an incentive.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By guidance and finding out the best way the student can study. Flashcards can be used as well as creating sample problems for the student to work on.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Offering incentives can go a long way. Differentiating based on the age of the student is critical. Younger students want praise and maybe stickers, and older kids (middle school-aged) like candy or little prizes.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would remain patient and try to use real life examples to help the student. If the student is into video games, I could use the video game as an example for what the concept is about.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would help them through the process and remain patient. I would start with easier books to help build their confidence and gradually increase to higher levels of reading. Flashcards are good to use as well.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
You need to get to know the student and build a relationship with that student. Being patient, understanding, and calm is very important when working with students.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would use life examples that relate to the student's life.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By finding out what excites the student and trying to incorporate that into the study material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
You give the student praise and acknowledge that they are doing a great job.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
You can evaluate a student's needs by asking questions and evaluating those answers.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I would find out what the student likes and how they like to learn, and would build my teaching skills to align with their needs
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I would use their book, online resources, and the resources that the tutoring company provides.
