Certified Tutor

I am currently attending UMass Amherst where I am pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Biology. Following my matriculation from college, I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career in medicine and health care.
I was born and raised in Ethiopia. I immigrated to the United States on the summer of 2011. I attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School my junior and senior year.

I have an extensive experience in tutoring science subjects such as Biology and Chemistry and Math’s subject such as Algebra I &II, and Calculus. I worked as a volunteer tutor in the tutoring center at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. I also served as a teaching assistant for an Anatomy and Physiology Class. In UMass Amherst, I currently work in the Learning Resource Center as a peer tutor. There, I tutor freshman level Biology and Chemistry classes, as well as Calculus I and II.
I am a strong believer in tutoring my tutees by giving them open ended question that encourage them to critically think about their subject topics rather than lecturing the concepts myself. I personally grasp concepts easier when I become an active learner, and I encourage my tutees to do the same. I also use visual cues and diagrams to better illustrate complex concepts.

Besides academic, I am a big fitness and athletics enthusiasts. I played soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis in high school, and I still play for an intramural league in college. I also enjoy music and dance. I play a traditional Ethiopian fiddle/violin and also perform in various dance shows and performances around my school.
