Certified Tutor

I graduated from South Eugene High School in 2012 and have been continuing my education at Hampshire College with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience. This branch of study is very broad and ranges from biochemistry and molecular biology to mathematical models and studies in artificial intelligence. This means that I often use concepts from mathematics, biology, and chemistry at an advanced level in my studies at Hampshire.
I have had previous tutoring experience as a math tutor at Hampshire College and by writing tutorials to explain software for Moonshadow Mobile. Both of these experiences have given me insight into how to break down difficult concepts into smaller parts. My goal as a tutor is to help my students understand the basic building blocks and to create an environment where they can put the blocks together themselves . People tend to think of math and science as analytical rather than creative, and I think that this is misleading about the true nature of these fields. Outside of school I paint, draw, sew, and design clothes and jewelry, and I approach math and science with similar creativity. I think that math and science can be very creative and that learning how to interact with math and science creatively can be an invaluable part of someones education. I want to find out how to motivate people to think about math and science in a creative fashion that is fun and interactive rather than simply giving them a list of formulas to work with.
I am excited to be working as a tutor. I think that this can be an enriching experience for both me and my students.
