Certified Tutor

Working with students has always been a passion of mine. I knew from a young age that I would become a coach and a teacher. Throughout the last 7 years I have been given the opportunity to explore this passion in multiple ways. I have coached thousands of cheerleaders across the United States with various backgrounds, working with children from 5 years of age, to young adults. I watched them progress physically, mentally, and socially over a week to sometimes years. Coaching helped me to develop and master the time management, organizational, and communicative skills needed to efficiently stay on task and help kids learn to their fullest ability.

While coaching in various school districts I earned my Associate of Science [Social Sciences] Degree from Northern Virginia Community College, as well as, my Bachelor of Arts [English] Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. After obtaining these credentials, I applied to the Teacher Preparation Program, along with, the Graduate Program for Secondary English Education with Virginia Commonwealth University. After I started the Graduate Program at VCU, I worked with middle and high school students which widened my variety of knowledge within the classroom. The hands-on experience I've gained from classroom teaching has taken my mentor-ship and leadership skills to the next level while allowing me to witness and feel the sense of community offered by the classroom dynamic.

Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I believe that it is important for students to have a background in reading and writing skills in order to succeed in their education. During my many internships in college, I was able to implement reading and writing strategies to help my students in their academics. I hope to be able to share these strategies while tutoring, and I look forward to working one-on-one with students of all ages while I jump start my teaching career. I believe that my experience at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, working with students one-on-one, on writing, literature, and phonics has given me the tools I need to help all of my Varsity Tutors students succeed.
