Teaching is not just a job; it is a calling. For my 36-year career as a public school teacher, I prided myself in making a difference in the lives of my students by being not just a teacher but also a mentor. Although retirement has afforded me ample opportunity to enjoy my photography, gardening, and crafting hobbies, because I missed working with young people, I now also tutor.
I earned my BA at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and taught middle school reading and language arts for 20 years and high school English for 16 years. During my career I have taken continuing education courses at ODU, UVA, U of R, VSU, and KU to hone my craft. I especially enjoy helping students at all levels—standard, gifted and talented, advanced, pre-IB--become better writers while developing an appreciation for good literature.
Academic success is often dependent upon a student being able to see the big picture. As a tutor I can help students with learning disabilities
break down tasks into manageable chunks and systematically assemble the pieces until the big picture comes into focus. Helping all students become independent, lifelong learners is always my ultimate goal.
