Certified Tutor

I recently graduated from the University of Southern California with my Master's in Molecular Biology. I am currently working as a Biology Lab and Lecture Instructor. I have several years of experience as a Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, and Instructor of Biology. As a Teaching Assistant, I learned how to command a room full of students and make learning interesting and fun. As a Research Assistant I have learned how to work well with others in addition to being proactive and organized with my day-to-day responsibilities.

During my time as an Instructor, I have gained valuable qualities that I plan to incorporate into my teaching career. I have learned that motivating students to learn on their own as well as in class, through reward based incentives, helps them to absorb and retain the material.

I often offer students extra credit questions on previously missed exam questions. This technique allows for the student to strive for more points, allows them to fix mistakes they may have already made, and they can take a second look at the material. I believe that if you give students all of the necessary tools and encourage them, success is sure to follow.

As an undergraduate student, I participated in the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program. As a graduate student, I participated in the Genomics Graduate Scholars Program. These organizations have bettered me as a Scientist and given me the insight that encouragement and education are necessary and should be open to all groups.

My unique background and teaching style shows that I am hard working and dedicated to not only learning new and interesting things, but to share them with others.
