Certified Tutor

I graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Chemistry and obtained my teaching license through the UKANTeach Program. I am licensed to teach Chemistry and Mathematics for grades 6-12. The subjects that I am currently tutoring are Algebra, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Geometry, Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Trigonometry, AP Chemistry, Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Science.

To me, problem solving is the most important thing I can teach anyone. As a high school chemistry teacher, I do not expect my students to know that Demetri Mendeleev created the periodic table 10 years down the road. That is not practical to most professions. What is important is to be able to take a problem, break it down, and brainstorm solutions for how to solve it. That is real-world, and is what is ultimately going to help a student most on each assignment and test. Also, I hope to inspire students. For those students who have a negative preconceived notion, I want to show them a different side of science or math. There are so many ways that science and math can be fun. Unfortunately, in a classroom of 20-30 students, it is difficult to reach each student individually. This is why I am so excited for tutoring sessions.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy watching sports and attending as many as I can. Football, basketball and baseball are my favorites. When I was in high school, I was a cheerleader and loved being able to support my teams. I love to travel and explore the world around me. I have been blessed with opportunities to visit Europe and even work with a study abroad program that helped me understand what it is like to be an English Language Learner. I also enjoy reading, riding horses, going to the movies and spending time with my friends and family.
