Tutoring review by Mary in Commonwealth, NC
We reviewed the student's homework. The homework did not have proofs on it which appeared to give the student more confidence in her ability to do her homework. She also asked to review a proofs that she had done previously that she had questions on. I thought it was great that the student brought up her confusion with the previous material without me asking.

Today we reviewed rational functions for the student's test tomorrow, going over simplifying, multiplying, dividing, adding, subtracting, and graphing. He understands the concepts well. He was initially uncertain about finding x and y-intercepts, but with practice, he improved over the course of the session.

Tutoring review by Linda in Commonwealth, NC
Today, we worked mostly on math. We did a multiplication speed test, as we talked about practicing multiplication last week, she was able to complete the 5-minute test in 4.5 minutes. Since she is now working on brand new material in math, we reviewed some of last quarter's work including the distance between points and solving multiple step equations. We also reviewed factoring to solve square roots without a calculator. Finally, we went over some new vocabulary in sentences. We will resume working more on grammar next week with her grammar assignments from last semester.

Tutoring review by Michelle in Commonwealth, NC
The student had spelling words to learn: spelling, which part of speech, definition, and pronunciation. We reviewed these aspects and noted where -tion & -ence endings on words usually make them nouns, among other observations. She reviewed what she was doing in all her classes, as I hadn't seen her for a few weeks. I gave her a sheet to review multiplication facts, some fact family problems, working with fractions, squaring numbers, and long division. She told me about all her classes. We worked on figuring area and perimeter from word problems, putting the answer to the correct significant digit. I also gave her some various review math problems. We'll just start at the beginning of an algebra text I use and make sure she's learning in a comprehensive and orderly process the math she needs.

Tutoring review by Daniel in Commonwealth, NC
Today the student and I worked on studying for his Chapter 12 review. His mother reported that he could use a cheat sheet for the test. We studied each problem with a total of 20 problems and then I helped him to develop a cheat sheet that would allow him to study and successfully pass each question on the test. I told him that he will need to practice to successfully pass the test. He was able to understand certain concepts when working on the review but struggled with the more algebraically inclined aspects in the class. This is what we will be working on next session.

Tutoring review by Kelsey in Commonwealth, NC
The student and I covered combination of exponents (multiplication and division); combination of radicals (multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition); and the simplification of both. She is struggling mostly with combining of exponents - she just needs to remember order of operations I gave her. She seems to really grasp the material. I feel confident she will do well on her test come Thursday.
