Tutoring review by Stephanie in Arkansas
During Friday's session, we reviewed words with the long O sound. This is a concept the student is currently working on in school. We also continued our practice of reading and identifying singular and plural nouns. She was very attentive in the lesson.

Tutoring review by Kevyn in Arkansas
Today, we went over forming alkyl halides from alcohols using HCl and thionyl chloride with pyridine. I went over the mechanism and then had the student try an example, and he seemed to do well with the material. We also discussed Williamson-Ether synthesis. We then discussed that OMs, OTs, and OTf are good leaving groups and talked about how two reactions that each do stereochemistry inversion (double inversion) will equal net retention. The student's final is next week, and he said he isn't too worried about this class.

Tutoring review by John in Arkansas
Today, we worked on the student's final review packet. She definitely had some rust on the concepts we covered way back at the beginning of the semester, but she managed to get it all together when we went over it.

Tutoring review by Margaret in Arkansas
For the first half hour, the student and I reviewed the two articles I had assigned for her to read. We had a good conversation about the methods in the studies that we read on the effects of video games. We also talked about free speech and content in video games. For the rest of the time, we went over a college application prompt that her mother had sent me for us to work on. We brainstormed different points she could include in each body paragraph and what kind of tone to use in an application essay. She will draft a version of this essay for us to review next week.

Tutoring review by Eybe in Arkansas
The student and I worked on a short passage that was given to him for homework. The student has been using the methods I have taught him like reading the questions to his story before he begins his reading. He then reads the stories and as he is reading he is underlining main ideas and key points that he remembers were part of his after reading questions. After the reading, I looked over the student's material and there was full accuracy on all questions. The student has made great progress and is understanding the material.

Tutoring review by Becky in Arkansas
This afternoon, I focused entirely on reviewing to prepare her for the quiz on Friday. I covered all the terminology and objectives that her teacher sent to me. We also logged onto her textbook and worked practice exercises from that resource. Overall, she is demonstrating that she comprehends the concepts; however, she does not consistently recall the difference between multiplying like bases and raising a power to a power. I will communicate with her teacher about this issue so that it can be reinforced in class. I'm also going to request a slight modification to support her on this topic until she masters it independently. She was on task and attentive throughout the session. Good work! :)
