The student's homework from the previous session was done very well. He had to add improper fractions. These were ones in which the like denominators added up to a whole number and then the other two needed a common denominator. Today's lesson was a challenge he did very well with. He had problems which required many steps for adding improper fractions. I provided many strategies such as adding common denominators to make a whole number and reducing fractions to make them easier to work with. He has homework regarding this math concept. He was very focused and hard working during this process.

Tonight was probably the first time I have seen this student struggle a little with math since I started working with him. He definitely has the arithmetic around promotions down solid, but he had a lot of trouble setting them up correctly. That being said, it's possible I was trying to get him to set them up differently than his teacher taught since there are so many ways to do the problems. I still recommend checking his homework over the next few days. We were also able to complete his science review together! He's definitely learning more about plants than the average adult knows. Overall it was a productive session!

Today we continued our work on scientific notation and quadratics. The student continues his steady improvement in both subjects. I gave him a series of challenge problems to go over and I was happy with his results. He has a science test this upcoming Friday; I expect him to do very well on it.
