We completed biology homework by discussing concepts including genotype, phenotype, and Punnett squares. We reviewed the vocabulary and practiced determining genotype and phenotype. We then read part of a play for literature class and discussed how to annotate, such as writing both facts from the plot as well as observations about characters and situations.

Today we worked on main assignments for the unit pertaining to colors. We reviewed vocabulary on clothing, the colors, the seasons, telling time, things in the classroom, and the weather. We also worked on conjugations of irregular verbs (etre, avoir, aller) and conjugation of -er and -ir verbs. She has improved with overall basic sentence construction through correcting and re-working several paragraphs required in the assignments.

This was the student's third tutoring session. He will be taking his SSAT exam in two weeks on December 8th. During this session, we learned how to write and solve algebraic equations. He had never been exposed to these concepts before; however, after a very short review, he completed all problems in his SSAT book without error. He will be given additional practice problems during our next session. During this session we also reviewed more difficult analogy techniques and he is to complete the remainder of the analogy section in his workbook. We reviewed analogy techniques, emphasizing the need to keep the analogies/words in the correct order.

This session we reviewed parallel lines and transversal.  He did well and I am starting to see where he gets confused with the material.  He is getting more and more comfortable working with me so is more willing to speak his mind, which is what I want.  This will be the best learning environment for the student.

Tutoring review by Michele in Plainfield, NJ
The student's parents and I discussed her performance in school, as well as the organizational skills they would like to impart to her in order to better equip her to excel. We reviewed some of her previous written work. The student and I then worked together on her book report on The Tale of Despereaux. We broke the assignment's required sections into different colored note cards, setting aside the number of cards needed for each section. We began brainstorming notes for main characters, setting, and plot summary. She will complete the other section cards as she continues reviewing the book. Next week, we will take the notes and begin formulating sentences to respond to each section of the report. The student is bright and seems willing to learn new methods of organization.
