We covered 5 sections in chapter 11 dealing with logarithms. We dealt with properties of logs and the base number change formula. The student grasps the overall concept of logarithms very well but continues to make simple computational errors in his solutions. He corrected these and successfully completed all the odd number questions in his work book. We have to continue to work slowly and methodically with checks on every line of work to reduce these kind of errors. He has a good start into next weeks math topic so we will skip next Wednesday's session and resume the week after with a new topic or prep for a test.

We started by working through the example problems he had for the new topic they started working on in class. The focus of the new chapter is cross multiplication and solving equations with multiple fractions. The student initially did not know what cross multiplication was, but once we walked through the examples, he was able to complete his homework. We then worked on reviewing for his chapter 10 test. The topic of focus of chapter 10 was simplifying radicals. We worked through a couple problems from each of the sections. These involved simplifying multiplied radicals, adding and subtracting radicals, and solving equations involving radicals.

Today, the student and I reviewed setting up the appropriate equation to relate a geometrical figure and solve for the unknown. After setting up the equation, he solved by combining like terms. Next, we worked with the midpoint formula. Given one known endpoint of a line segment and the coordinates of the midpoint, he had to find the coordinates of the other unknown endpoint. He said that he went over this concept with his teacher. Just to confirm his knowledge, I presented him with a couple more similar problems of my own. He answered them all correctly. One thing that I noticed about him was that he rushes his thoughts in his mind while doing the mathematics. I believe slowing down and organizing his thoughts clearly will help him with the accuracy of his work.

We covered the chain rule by going over the homework and extra examples. The student began to work well with using the chain rule for a function that was composed with another single function.

Today I worked with the student on a packet that her teacher had given her to complete for next week. This is good because she is not procrastinating her work and desired to better herself. We worked on topics focused on Newton's laws and their application. The packet had a large emphasis on apparent weight in elevators and made for some stimulating conversation about the concepts. I think this session was very helpful in furthering her understanding of the physics. Towards the end of the session she was starting to complete my sentences and really think and speak like a physicist.
