Tutoring review by Elizabeth in Ludlow, NY
During this session, we focused on the basics of derivatives. We talked about how the derivative of a function represents the slope of a tangent line, and worked on building intuition from graphs of a function's derivative (e.g. if the derivative is always positive, then the function is always increasing). We also worked with the limit definition of derivatives, and used the definition to find derivatives of polynomial and rational functions.

Tutoring review by Nicole in Ludlow, NY
The student has a quiz tomorrow, so we reviewed the concepts for the quiz. She was able to order integers without any assistance. She can solve positive, negative, and 0 exponents, but needs to write out what the exponent stands for. For example, 5 to the 3rd power=5x5x5. She remembered scientific notation, but needs to be careful with counting correctly when moving the decimal. She did excellent with adding integers. We reviewed the rules again and practiced mainly subtracting integers. She knows how to solve these problems, and just needs to take her time writing out the subtraction problem to an addition problem, and to think about which rule to follow. On Sunday at the next session we will start working on multiplying and dividing integers to get a head start on the next unit.

We went over gas laws. The student needed help with the material since she just learned it. She has great attitude toward the material. Some problem strategies such as problem analysis and units analysis were taught. Her homework is to familiarize the gas laws and apply them to different type of questions.

We discussed tips regarding bisecting lines in triangles, similar triangles, and congruent triangles. We will continue to practice at the next session.

Tutoring review by Jacob in Ludlow, NY
The student and I worked on identifying the leading terms of a polynomial, finding the zeros of a polynomial, sketching a polynomial by analyzing the function, and determining the correct value of the imaginary unit i raised to arbitrary exponents. All of these concepts can be tough for students to learn, but she showed great understanding and patience with each of the subjects. We walked through examples together in each of the listed topics and she was able to walk me through problems for each of them correctly and without my assistance. Just because of the abstract and important nature of some of the material we covered today, she should review what we covered tonight after a few days to keep it fresh in her mind. Overall, she did a fantastic job and showed great enthusiasm.

We are going to work on solving systems of inequalities, and the student is going to retake a recent test on the subject. Her homework tonight - multiplying polynomials - went very well. It definitely is something she understands.
