Tutoring review by Anna in Laguna Beach, CA
The student and I prepared for the Calculus final that she will take tomorrow morning. We reviewed area bounded between two curves and integration by parts. She has a good idea as to what approach she should take with each type of problem. She will spend some time practicing the different types of integration by parts problems, as a couple of the problems that we completed during today's session were not as straight forward as they seemed.

Tutoring review by Dana in Laguna Beach, CA
This was our best session yet. The student was motivated because of his test tomorrow, and came to our session with a few specific questions. He had his textbook at his side and we were able to refer to it as necessary. We together reinforced all of the material of Bien Dit chapter 1 -- vocabulary and grammar -- and cleaned up his questions regarding the indefinite articles un/une/des/de/d' (tricky business). We made sure that he had no further questions remaining in chapter 1, and he felt confident at lesson's end. His pronunciation of French has improved noticeably over the past two weeks, also. I am hoping that he will have nothing but good answers on his test tomorrow. As in past sessions, I urged him to inspect every page of the chapter to ensure that there was nothing which was vague or unfamiliar, and he appeared to have done this.

Tutoring review by Michael in Laguna Beach, CA
Today we continued our work in algebra, moving from linear equations to systems of equations. We practiced solving those visually as well as by substitution. We worked with a lot of visuals today, which work well for the student. We also took time to look at slope-intercept form in depth, looking at how exactly it works, because it is useful in many situations. As always, she picked up on material quickly, frequently recalling having learned it at one point in the past.

Tutoring review by Peter in Laguna Beach, CA
In math, we touched on a number of topics that often come up on the test, including: analytical approaches to parallel and perpendicular lines, parallel line geometry properties and extending them to geometric figures (e.g. parallelograms, trapezoids), and finding intersection points. For science, we focused on comparing competing opinions and reading charts/tables for data in the context of the problem. The student had a great instinct (from experience) to use the science questions as a guide to sharply focus on just the information in the passage needed. It will help a lot, since a lot of the difficulty with ACT Science is cutting through the noise.

Tutoring review by Chloe in Laguna Beach, CA
The student read her sight words. She read her book and then read her homework book. After that, she answered some comprehension questions. We looked over her spelling words, and she wrote them on my back. Then, I wrote some on her back. I gave her a fake spelling test. She got most of the words correct. The words she didn't get correct, I had her spell 3 more times.

Tutoring review by Drake in Laguna Beach, CA
We worked through a variety of subjects on a study guide for her exam on Friday. She mainly struggled with tangent line approximations and the intermediate value theorem, but she learned very quickly and seemed to be much more comfortable with the topics by the end of the session.
