The student worked on understanding new unit in pre-calculus by working examples and homework problems; narrowed topic for history paper, developed central question and began locating research sources. She got a feel for Common App essay expectations, how to truly convey individuality, personality, and passions, and narrowed topic so she could successfully accomplish this.

Read for two reading assignments and then did math worksheets on sorting numbers based on ten's and one's places. The student was having some trouble with the math worksheets, but seemed to start getting it toward the end of the session. Hopefully, with more practice he will get better.

Student 1 had a math homework assignment on probability. The assignment focused on playing cards which she had not used before. We talked about the possible outcomes in a deck of cards by reviewing the shapes, numbers, and letters. Then, we answered each question by mapping outcomes. After she completed this assignment we did two more practice problems from her book and began a story that would include her spelling words.
Student 2 had reading, math, and spelling homework. She breezed through the math homework. We corrected her spelling homework together and then reviewed a few spelling words and their meanings. Finally, she read aloud a story from her reader about earthquakes. The next session is tomorrow at 5:30pm.

Today the student and I worked on words that have the long A sound with a silent e at the end. We also worked on compound words and their meanings. At the end of the tutoring session the student read out of a book of her choice and we practiced more of her comprehension strategies.

Today I met with Student 1 and 2. We reviewed strategies and went over missed problems from the Math and Science sections. Their scores have significantly improved, as much as an average of 8 points on the Science section which was the primary focus when I started working with them. I am confident that they will do well and our target is for their overall score to be greater than 30.

We went over more biology concepts, namely the circulatory system. The student read through the pages in the book related to the circulatory system assigned to him, and we followed our normal pattern of note taking and highlighting. We talked about the idea of the double pump and the path blood takes in the body. There was also time to talk about the eye.
