Tutoring review by Philip in Taunton, MA
To prepare for a midweek exam (Unit 6B), he asked to do this Tuesday session. We first started by reviewing his Unit 6A exam and doing some of the corrections. For most of his mistakes, he knew what he did wrong, but for one of them, he demonstrated a weakness in his fundamental knowledge of functions. We addressed this which was beneficial as it came up again while we prepped for his unit test the next day. The other topics we covered during this session were the asymptotes of "e" problems, the properties of logarithms, what the change of base formula is, and how to solve logarithmic equations. He showed a great competency with most of the material for his test tomorrow, and I'm expecting him to do very well.

The student and I worked on retelling of stories and details. This session was about teaching him the skills needed to remember certain details or main ideas. He was able to remember some of these skills during this session and showed some improvement in his recall of the story. He is still struggling to remember the majority of the key events or main ideas. He tends remember the last thing he read. Allowing him to use the pictures to aid him in remembering those main events in the story helped him greatly. He needs to make sure he is reading every night and practicing retelling the story to someone at home. We also discussed his math facts. He relies heavily of using models that slow his instant recall of facts down. I recommended that he practice his math facts using a math facts website. This site will improve his speed and instant recall of facts.

In today's session, the student and I began working through the review packet for his upcoming exam. Topics covered in this exam are graphing reference functions (linear, parabola, cubic, inverse, absolute value, etc.), using transformations to graph more complex functions based on reference functions, determining types of symmetry, and piecewise functions.

The student and I focused on the essay and the critical reading sections today. We practiced coming up with a thesis, but most importantly we continued our work on making examples cohere well together to build a more fluid essay. We also discussed four different critical reading passages: two short ones, and two longer ones, with an even mix of fiction and nonfiction.

Tutoring review by Jonathan in Taunton, MA
Today, we went over the student's chemistry exam and the mistakes she made. We also focused on the lab, and I had her answer the questions, which she did well in. I wanted to make sure she understood the questions and how to answer the questions correctly. Then, we reviewed her math homework on solving systems of equations. We did an extra credit assignment, and I showed her how to be creative in solving the problem. She understood how to do the problems.

We kept working on the review packet going through proofs of similar triangles. We also talked about dilations and how to determine the scaling factor and the center of dilation. We worked on using the law of sine and cosine along with the Pythagorean theorem and the strict definition of sine and cosine to find different side lengths and angle measurements. Overall we covered a variety of subjects for reviewing for the exam.
