During this session we mostly worked on conversions in word problems. I tried to visually show him (using our water glasses) how to convert from cups to pints. That seemed to help him understand if the number of cups was larger or smaller than pints for example. Once we practiced this a few times he was able to get through the problems with my help.

The student and I covered several Math and Reading Comprehension strategies for the ACT and SAT. She has no problem with Algebra, and I believe she will be able to do well on the ACT. I've assigned several Math and Reading Comp sections for homework.

The student and I spent a little bit of time with factoring, and we spent most of the hour working with radicals. She was pretty familiar with the essential concepts she is currently working with in class, but she has some trouble with arithmetic associated with it. Because her teacher does not allow calculators on tests, she needs to be doing her homework without a calculator so she gets the necessary practice. Towards the end of the session, I noticed she had some problems working with negative numbers, and I am planning to help her understand how to work with them in a future session.
