Tutoring review by Ian in Brookfield, WI
Today we reviewed the student's homework for Chapters 5-7 and reviewed a little for her upcoming quiz on Thursday. She should definitely review before her test on Thursday, making sure to check herself when she sets up each problem to ensure it makes sense and checking each answer to see that it seems appropriate given the problem. Emphasizing the use of words like 'less than' and 'off of' is important. One technique that seemed to help was to replace the percent with the number that it represents in the problem (e.g. '10% less than 200' becomes '20 less than 200' [once she finds that 10% of 200 is 20] so that it is clear that she still needs to subtract 20 from 200). It is worth further emphasis.

Tutoring review by Aaron in Brookfield, WI
We started class with a warm-up of multiplication exercises, which the student did well on. She caught many of her mistakes and relied less on guessing. We practiced word problems involving multiplication as well, which involved drawing models. We moved on to her workbook. She did a great job on the reading practice, and for grammar we covered singular and plural nouns. Overall, it was a pretty good class.

Tutoring review by Anna in Brookfield, WI
The student worked through two SAT math sections, missing two on the first and one on the second. Furthermore, she figured out the first two problems on her own; she just needed more time. This development shows that one of the areas to work on is speed. If she can finish the easier problems faster, she'll have more time for the more difficult questions at the end of the section.
