We reviewed probability related to the Venn diagram. I suggested the student focus on what was being asked instead of trying to memorize formulas.

The student completed her geometry homework; she was working on paragraph proofs. She seemed to have a firm grasp on the material. I also discussed with her tips on how to already begin preparing for the ACT. If she begins a formula sheet, and fills this in throughout the school year, she can use this as a reference point when she begins studying for the ACT next year. We also discussed how it is never too early to begin preparing for other sections on the ACT.

During our session, we primarily went over new vocabulary, including countries/nationalities, clothing, family members, personal descriptions, useful connecting words, and numbers up to 100. This was done in a conversational, question and answer style incorporating past grammatical concepts covered. Some time was specifically devoted to the conjugation of verbs, especially "tener" and the use of "hay." The new grammar concept covered involved demonstrative adjectives and the difference between "este, ese, and aquel." The student has now become substantially more comfortable with the language, especially comprehending spoken Spanish and reading comprehension. He will continue to study vocabulary and grammar concepts in anticipation of our next session, which is scheduled for Wednesday.

We continued the student's preparation for her math exam. I think she understands the material quite well but is having a hard time incorporating and connecting the key concepts. Once she understands the why of what we are doing, she will be able to answer the more difficult questions that she needs. She needs to keep working on practice problems. That is the only way she will get better.

Today the student had a lot of science homework based on light absorption. He is still catching up in his science class. In order to better get the concept across, I did some demonstrations with colored light. By the end of the session he seemed much more confident about the subject matter.

The student and I continued going over his reading packet during today's session. He continues to do well on his homework. We worked on area of shapes and surface area. He did very well actually, and I look forward to seeing how he continues to do in class.
