The student was preparing for a test. We covered quadratic functions in various forms. We worked through problems converting equations between standard form, vertex form, and factored form.

We went over the Law of Sines which we looked up online and used to solve for missing sides in a non-right triangle. The student now has a firm grasp of the subject and we finished by working story problems to make sure he understood the concept and usage of the Law of Sines. We also reviewed the Unit Circle and I explained its application to sines and cosines in common right triangles such as 45-45-90 and 30-60-90.

This was the student's eighth algebra tutoring session. It was very successful. We focused our attention on solving quadratic equations by factoring, completing the square and using the quadratic formula. For the more challenging trinomials, in the form of ax^2 + bx + c where a does not equal one, the student was able to follow a six-step algorithm in order to factor them. He was also able to successfully solve quadratic equations by carefully completing the square. He seemed to enjoy using the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations because it works every time. As always, excellent work!

We worked three big sections on Physics Sat II review, focusing primarily on capacitors. Then we moved on to law of sines and cosines, and finished with probability. The student is on track to do well on both exams.

We worked on proofs today. We moved on to triangle congruency proofs, which were very easy for her once she learned how to read them and use them. We will continue with proofs tomorrow.
