Tutoring review by Amber in Greene County, OH
The student was working on measures of central tendency, dot plots, frequency tables, and box plots. She needed a little help on box plots, but overall is doing really well with this unit. The only real misconception she had was wanting to divide by 2 when finding the mean instead of dividing by the number of data points. She was just so used to finding the average of two numbers. I think we got that cleared up. She was doing all of the box and whisker plot problems without any trouble. I think that since this unit is easy for her, in the next couple weeks we'll focus on reviewing previous material that was a challenge to strengthen her math foundation and get her ready for her final.

For our session today the student and I worked on his algebra I homework, which we seemingly will be doing exclusively from here on out. We began the session by opening up on a new topic for him regarding quadratic equations and parabolic graphs. He seemed to understand the material fairly well, but struggled with completing problems that required a little more in depth thinking. He has an issue with making very small mistakes (such as sign changes) but these are things I am working very hard on eliminating.

The student and I covered the rest of the review packet we started yesterday, covering logarithms, natural logs, Euler's number, trigonometric functions in relation to triangles, graphing, and circles. He is fairly comfortable with converting logs into exponents and back but starts making basic mistakes with the conversion when getting more in depth with the properties of logs and natural logs/Euler's number, such as misplacing the exponent and the base. Once the mistake is pointed out, she can figure out what she did wrong and correct, but she should be careful and double check her work. The student is more solid in trigonometry and understands the basic concepts.

Tutoring review by Jonathan in Greene County, OH
In my session today with the student, we covered the homework from the unit he began in class today. It was on solving the values of internal and external angles of polygons, regular or irregular. It was quite different from proofs, which we have been covering the past weeks, because it is much more algebraic. The proofs were more theory and reasoning. He seems to get the hang of solving polygons pretty well. I feel they are a lot easier for him to grasp than proofs were.

Tutoring review by Renato in Greene County, OH
Today in this session we are continuing with a general review of the following: average rate of change, power functions, division of complex numbers, directly and inversely proportional quantities and respective equations. The purpose of this review is to get ready for the student's midterm exam on this Thursday. He successfully understood all the problems. He successfully solved the problems that I assigned yesterday from his text book and finished the study guide, so we reviewed his doubts on it. He is doing well. Overall the wins from this session are that he is more confident in solving these kinds of problems and he is ready for his final test tomorrow.

Tutoring review by Donnell in Greene County, OH
We started working on elementary geometry concepts, specifically area of a rectangle, square, and triangle. The student seemed to follow the concepts pretty well and will gain a better understanding the more time we spend with them. I explained to him that if he can master solving equations for area of geometric figures, he will also be learning algebraic concepts that will benefit him in the future.
