The student and I solved for the unknown where it involved quadratic equations and fractions. The student was able to do this by himself, though I followed along to make sure there weren't any mistakes. He seems confident in this area. There were only a few times that I had to step in to help. Overall, I thought the session went well and I think he is retaining the information.

In the last couple weeks we have focused mainly on essay writing and language arts. Today, we switched to Math and went over some concepts involving percentages, fractions, and decimals. We also worked on word problems that incorporate some of these concepts. I made sure the student had a good understanding of the material we covered today.

We spent all of this session going over the free response section from a practice test the student took. We did every problem a second time, looking at simple errors she had made the first time. We talked about how to correct those. We will meet one more time to review for the upcoming AP exam.

The student had taken a practice SAT at school, and we went over the entire math section. She has also started taking a practice test on her own which we can go over when she finishes. We determined that percents and interest rates are what we need to focus on next.

For this session, the student read from his book and wrote a paragraph about what he read. He also practiced math skills, primarily focusing on comparing and ordering fractions with like numerators. He did a great job with both activities!
