We went over a test that he was given an opportunity to retake. We went over all of the ones he got wrong and talked about some of the problems he got right. We corrected a lot of mistakes and hopefully will do much better on the retake.

Tutoring review by James in Hutto, TX
The student did not have any homework so we did a bunch of practice problems. First we reviewed solving one step equations with addition and subtraction. Then we moved to one step equations with multiplication and division. After she felt comfortable solving one step equations we moved on to two-step equations. After she got the hang of the two-step equations I introduced her to the process of multi step equations where there is a variable on both sides of the equal sign. We then finished with a quick review of solving for portions which she did really well on.

Tutoring review by Sophia in Hutto, TX
During my session with the first student, we worked on a fact sheet her Earth Science teacher had given her as review for the upcoming class exam. At first, the student struggled with understanding how to study the fact sheet for the test, and seemed perplexed by the task. As a strategy, I suggested that she go through each fact, underlining and highlighting the key terms which she will most likely be tested on, and noting which facts she has not yet learned in class with her teacher. I also suggested that she record herself reading the facts aloud so that she can play the recording back to herself as another means of memorizing the facts. I think she will do well on her exam if she continues studying the material. During my session with the second student, we worked on analyzing and annotating a poem by Wilfred Owen, a World War I poet, and reading comprehension questions on Julius Caesar. The student struggled somewhat with the imagery alluded to in Owen's poem as she did not have a clear mental image of what being at war might look like before we read the poem. As a strategy for reading poetry, I showed her that is necessary to stop every few lines to ask yourself, "What is the poet saying/showing/doing in these lines?" and that a poem must be read several times in order to grasp its full meaning. Other than the writing aspect, the student understood that entire poem as we read and analyzed the lines together orally.

We reviewed some of the student's test problems that he had gotten wrong, and did practice problems from his math book over the last section's content. We did not start on anything new, but he is getting better at completing problems in the right order of steps.
