Tutoring review by Anna in Butner, NC
The student and I had a productive session today. We didn't cover any new material, other than a quick review of the three binomial multiplication patterns and factoring, but spent the whole time doing practice problems. She did very well with the various types of problems. We also did some word problems, and I asked the student to convert the English into algebra then solve the algebra. She showed that she completely understood a word problem by explaining how she would go about solving the problem. Overall it was a great session.

We started with a worksheet that the student got, on solving basic algebraic equations. She got the general idea, but could definitely use a lot more practice. I didn't want to spend too much time on this, however, as her math test was moved to this Thursday. The test will cover rational/ irrational numbers, parts of an expression, and properties, so we spent some time reviewing all of these topics. She remembered rational/ irrational numbers from last week's session, so that was a quick review. Parts of an expression was also covered last week, but we watched a helpful video that broke it down for us as well. We probably had to spend the most time on real number properties. We went over each property, and then I had her do an exercise in identifying properties, given specific equations.

We will cover chapters 3-8 in parts of 1 and 2 each session for a total of 12 weeks. This will be alongside the student's school work and on weekends so it may even take longer. The plan is to begin practice tests in May. Summertime will be a time of practice exam and review. We are doing practice questions along the way. Today was a diagnostic session and he performed well on every section except for the one on powers and roots. He should review this chapter's questions throughout the week, as well. I would say he is very much on track for his grade level for his competency in math. I will see him next week!

Tutoring review by Shannon in Butner, NC
This session, we continued working on linear functions with an extra credit quiz. The student scored 8/10 and only missed two because of the wording of the answers. We also went over her bell work and homework. She is working on word problems dealing with multiple rates and learning to comprehend the complex information in these problems. She had to explain her answers in the homework and did very well showing her understanding of the problems.

Tutoring review by Emily in Butner, NC
The student had a quiz after the last time we met. He received a 100 on the quiz, and he was very proud of it! He explained that he understood most of what his teacher lectured on in class, including finding missing side lengths when an altitude is present and proving statements true based on given information. He came prepared with homework problems he wanted to work on involving those concepts. The session went very well.
