We did a review of this semester's concepts. We spent most of our time on graphing rational polynomials and simplifying rational polynomials. We discussed a new factoring strategy, and a factoring recipe (looking for common factors first, then trying trinomial factoring, or if it's a 4-part polynomial, factoring by grouping, or looking for sum of squares, etc.), and also how moving everything to one side could help solve a polynomial expression. I assigned her extra practice problems from her book.

We completed homework about finding the roots of quadratic equations. Then reviewed old homework about completing the square.

The student's final is coming up, and she wanted to be sure she was ready, so we focused on some of the things that she is still a little unsure of. We started with geometry. We went over the Pythagorean Theorem, and SOHCAHTOA. She practiced finding the missing angles and legs, then we moved on to some word problems. She is fairly confident, and I'm sure she will have no problem on the test. We will meet one more time next week to do a final review.

Today the student and I continued to practice adding and multiplying with the place value chart. We practiced making place value shifts by 10s and 100s. We will continue to practice this skill next week with multiplication and division by exponents of 10.

We worked through a diagnostic SAT verbal section and focused specifically on strategies for tackling the reading comprehension section (i.e. coming up with an educated guess before answering an "Agree or Disagree" question and eliminating strong worded answer choices for inference questions.

This session revolved around the material that was taught between the last tutoring session and today. Last time, the student and I worked ahead of the class. Today, that material was finally covered by the teacher and worksheets were assigned. We were able to discuss all but one problem for the worksheets. This problem will be finished next time we meet.
