As a tutor, I desire to give students confidence in their effort and abilities. My goal is to provide tools, support and guidance while working toward independent learning and success. I emphasize speaking and conversing in Spanish so that students can learn to apply the language beyond the textbook. I have taught ELL one-on-one in community settings for 3 years to adolescents and adults. I also spent 7 weeks in Kojima, Japan teaching English to students ranging from Pre-K to Adults. I have an excellent record in Spanish, earning high marks in all Spanish courses taken. I have also traveled in Bolivia and Mexico, advancing my use of the language.

I began to enjoy math and physics during my sophomore year of high school when I encountered trigonometry and algebra 2. Up until this point in high school, I had skated by because I had not been challenged sufficiently enough to pique my interest. When I began to struggle with concepts in this class, I knew I had met a subject that demanded more rigor than a half hour breezing through notes. Since then, I have grown to love math and it's applied version, engineering, through rigorous education and job experience. My path took me to Saint Louis University where I graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and later to Washington University in Saint Louis, where I graduated with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. I've had many opportunities throughout this time to both learn and teach and I am passionate about both. I have been a teaching assistant, tutor, researcher, guest lecturer, researcher, and am currently a practicing engineer. Some things about me: I've resided in Saint Louis my whole life and am very familiar with the area. I love the outdoors and take runs around my neighborhood every chance I get. I enjoy kayaking, hiking, camping, and mountain climbing. I love to read and learn things that are outside of my immediate skill set. As a tutor, I look forward to encountering various learning styles and adapting my own teaching style to the needs of my students. My goal is to not only provide assistance in the material currently encountered by the students, but also to give them tools to succeed in their own in their future studies.

My name is Jackson Ranger. I graduated with a B.A. in History and International Relations with a minor in American Studies and a Certificate in International Affairs. I received the Undergraduate Writing Award from the Center for the Study of the United States in my Fourth Year and graduated with High Distinction. I have conducted primary and secondary historical research in Toronto and the prestigious Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. I specialize in transnational history - tracing the institutional and individual connections between regions of the world through networks of exchange, communication, and migration - as well as American history. I am also well-versed in academic and creative writing. As a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Undergraduate Journal of American Studies, Features Editor for The Mike - a Toronto-based student-run newspaper - and Associate Editor of Defense News for the Commandant Journal, I have extensive experience in writing and copyediting. I am an experienced tutor in advanced research skills that are helpful to students of any age - especially those who will soon graduate to the university level. My teaching style employs a mix of lecture-based instruction and direct handling of primary and secondary materials. I also like to keep sessions interactive and dynamic through videos, activities, or writing exercises.

I am a graduate of Indiana University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Mathematics minor. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Human Genetics in hopes of soon becoming a Genetic Counselor. Previously, I have held positions as a Mathematics tutor and Biology Undergraduate Teaching Assistant while at Indiana University. I personally love tutoring and helping students succeed in the way previous role models, professors, and students have helped me in the past. I believe each student learns differently, and it's incredibly important to determine how each particular student learns and what strategies work well for each individual in order to allow them to succeed. I also thoroughly enjoy helping students find a passion and enjoyment for STEM fields as I have. In my free time, I love traveling, acting in community theatre productions, and crafting.

I started tutoring at Middlebury College. I tutored college students for a political science class as well as a creative writing class. The funny part is that while I always enjoyed writing and had a passion for it, I was never very good. I had my problems with my own writing and certainly not, at first, qualified to tutor anyone else in it. In fact, my first creative writing class I took at Middlebury, my professor told me that writing was not my strong suit.I was discouraged. Frustrated, even. But not to the point that I wanted to quit. Rather, I wanted to be better. I wanted to prove myself; to show my professor that I could, in fact, write. The rest of the story is rather anti-climatic. There was no inspired epiphany, when all the lights suddenly go on. It was more like turning the lights on in an empty gym, when the lights go on one by one and it takes a while for them to get bright. The lights so slowly get brighter and you don't even really notice it, they're just... on.There is no short cut, no revelatory moment. Everything is a process. Learning is a process. And because I believe that, I also believe that anyone can learn to do anything as long as he or she puts in the time. The only way I got better at writing is by writing more. And writing about the things that matter to me (which was and is basketball). Slowly, I established my voice, my style, and before I noticed, I became a writer. And it was Professor Ganley who recommended me to be tutor, told me, "You can write for a living."I don't write for a living. I coach basketball now, and before that I taught English in Korea. I still tutor, and I specialize in teaching writing and SAT prep. But what I'm really interested in is the process of learning; step by step, helping a student acquire the skills and knowledge to be successful in the given subject.

I have enjoyed tutoring math since I was sixteen years old and have never looked back. I have tutored the subjects Pre-Algebra Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, as well as the standardized tests PSAT Math, SAT Math, ACT Math, and GRE Quantitative Reasoning. I specialize in one on one settings, where I can get to know students and establish a connection with them. With that connection, I find it much easier to carefully explain concepts in multiple ways to ensure they understand the material. When I am driving to a tutoring session, I do not feel like I am going to work. I feel good knowing that I am doing something that I love to do. Tutoring math online is a personal favorite.
