The student spent one third of the session working on her extra credit assignment involving word problems. Secondly, we worked on reviewing inequalities, absolute value inequalities, and graphing inequalities. The last third of the session she worked on her current homework of completing the square and factoring quadratics. The student was in good spirits and she was focused on our work.

The student and I started with her sight words. She read me her class reading book for her homework. We choral read together, and she read by herself. She read the last time with fluency and personality. She did great! We went over comprehension questions together. She was able to think deeper into the book because of these questions. She finished with going over her sight words again.

Today was a bit of a review day so we covered multiple concepts ranging from factoring, systems of equations, simplifying negative exponents, rate problems, and FOIL. The student struggled a bit with multiplying two numbers in scientific notation but we did multiple practice problems and he seemed to be doing better the more problems we worked.

Today the student and I worked on reorganizing her portfolio draft. With all of the feedback and comments from different people, she was feeling a little overwhelmed, but we settled on a strong, organized outline by the end of the session. The extra research she has done will be really helpful to her case, and we made sure to find clear points where all of it could be discussed.

The student worked on her homework which involved converting KG and G. She did very well with the task. She then worked on converting pounds into ounces. She has been working on this topic for a while and has excelled in this skill. We then moved into two-step real-life word problems, and after a couple of problems she understood. Next session we will review multi-step word problems.

Tutoring review by Skyler in Cerritos, CA
We went over simplifying equations, graphing, and transformations of graphs, especially those dealing with asymptotes. Most of the questions the student had were around the rules of simplifying, and declaring the domain of the simplified equations. She has a good attitude, and is a willing learner. Some of the strategies that we repeatedly discuss are involving the graphs and creating tables of data to be able to describe what is happening with the equation. She received a high B at the end of last semester, which is great! She is a very smart student.
