I am an attorney and solo practitioner who prepared for the LSAT on my own. I worked full time while attending law school at night, and while I studied for the Bar Exam. I know how to effectively manage time to achieve goals.I say this because the LSAT is not like other tests. The material is irrelevant. What is important is managing your time to optimize your score. I truly believe that all children can be successful in school. Over the past 16 years of teaching elementary and middle school, I have seen children thrive and excel in otherwise difficult subjects if they have the tools to approach learning. I am well versed in differentiated instruction, am creative, and always get to really know my students and their learning styles so that I can help them. In addition to my teaching experience, I have given many workshops on the Common Core State Standards and know what is required to be successful on state tests.

I graduated from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) with a BS in Biology. As an undergrad at Caltech, I was a TA for the introductory biology class and lab. I am able to tutor in a wide range of subjects and am passionate about helping students succeeding. I've never been that student who 'got things' right away, but I learned how to work hard and ask for help when I needed it. I hope to pass this on to my students.

My name is Michael Devore. I am a licensed attorney with a large commercial insurance broker. I hold a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. Prior to attending law school, I worked in law enforcement for nearly ten years, during which time I held a wide range of positions including gang task force member, SWAT operations, and police academy instructor.

I am a junior majoring in Applied Biological Sciences at Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. My background consists primarily of mentorship and tutoring for high-schoolers and college freshmen. I am currently helping two honors faculty members pioneer a writing tutoring program to aid the freshmen class with their required honors course, the Human Event. Because of this mentorship from the faculty, writing is definitely one of my favorite things to teach. Tutoring is all about having a balance- I want my students to feel relaxed and at-ease with the direction of study but also to be productive and engaged in the material. Tutoring is about working together so that he/she can solve it, not me giving the student the answers. Many times students know so much more than they realize, and showing that to them is always the first thing I try to accomplish. I am about pinpointing the problem and making small changes to have the most impact.In my spare time (when I have any :)) I enjoy water sports. I like scuba diving, surfing and just being near any water in general. I also spend my time with an organization called Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE), which reaches out to girls of all ages to promote women in STEM careers. Some highlights of the past year include a Badge Blast with the Girl Scouts, high school demonstrations and taking our members to an archery range. WiSE is about not allowing young girls to sell themselves short and ignoring stereotypes about women.

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in both Anthropology and Dramatic Art, both with distinction. I also completed an honors thesis and minor in Fiction Writing. I was awarded the Robertson Scholarship, which provided full tuition, housing, and summer funding. During college, I traveled to New Orleans, France, and China to study non-profit arts management, theatre, and martial arts. I now spend my summers teaching theatre and ethics and the Governor's School of North Carolina, a public summer program for gifted high school students. I tutor many subjects in the humanities and social sciences, including English Literature and Language, Essay Composition and Writing, Anthropology, Sociology, Theatre Topics, and Public Speaking. I am qualified to tutor related AP classes, as well as the critical reading and writing sections of the PSAT and SAT. I am incredibly passionate about these subjects, and have made a perfect score on every standardized writing exam I have ever taken. As a teacher, I believe every student has the right and ability to excel, and I acknowledge that every student learns differently. I always take the time to identify how my students learn best and adapt my teaching methods to meet their needs. I have developed teaching methods for all styles of learners that include kinesthetic activities, cartooning, and guided conversations. I firmly believe that outstanding achievement can, and should be, accessible to all students. Outside of education, I work as a properties designer for theatrical productions and build puppets, masks, and other special objects for the stage. I'm also expanding my cooking repertoire, though my specialty (and guilty pleasure) is Southern soul food. My biscuit recipe is my closest guarded secret.

I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, including one year teaching ESL at a Kindergarten in Chiang Mai, Thailand, three years teaching ESL at a cram school for students in elementary, middle, and high school in Taipei, Taiwan, and two years teaching creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. As someone who has studied Mandarin Chinese for three years, I understand the difficulty of acquiring a new language and the importance of immersion in the language as opposed to rote memorization of vocabulary words. I also believe that presenting arguments in a clear, well-structured, organized manner will improve any essay, regardless of the subject.
