Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Princeton University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in German with certificates in French, European Cultural Studies, and Study of Women and Gender. After graduation I worked for one year as an immigration paralegal before beginning my Ph.D. in German at New York University in 2011, which I am still pursuing. As a Ph.D. student I have taught both discussion sections of required humanities courses and stand-alone German language courses at all levels; both of these kinds of courses require significant one-on-one work with students in office hours. I am most passionate about helping students improve their writing, analyze literary texts, learn a foreign language, and understand historical events. I also enjoy taking and tutoring standardized tests and believe that with the right preparation any student has significant control over their outcome on test day; this is partly a result of taking control over my own destiny when it came to the SAT, GRE, and most recently LSAT tests, on all of which I significantly improved on my own performance by following a disciplined regimen. I try to build a relationship with students that motivates them to succeed by learning more about their other interests and goals and encouraging the student to think about how our work together fits into that. Outside of my academic and pedagogical pursuits, I enjoy cooking, running, and traveling.
