Continued revisions on Credo and Major Paper 1, began revisions on the student's Introduction and Outcome topics.

The student and I continued to discuss his essay for college applications. We went over the work he'd already done and spent time brainstorming ideas for each paragraph. He will complete a rough draft by our next session so that we can further refine his work.

Today the student and I went over one of his last essays for this term. In this essay, he is being asked to write a short story to present and discuss some idea or principle in which he strongly believes. He worked on the paper during the week and sent me a copy of his draft this afternoon. After reviewing it, we met to discuss my comments and a plan for moving forward. He is going to make the corrections and email the essay once more for me to look it over. Altogether, I think this essay shows that he has learned a lot about his own writing process over the past few assignments, as his first draft was far superior to his drafts of previous papers.

We first worked on an editorial I had assigned the student on school uniforms. Together we made revisions by deleting some words and sentences, and then changing the diction. Next, we worked on subject-verb agreement and other difficult verbs from the workbook. We covered 4 exercises. Then we started working on pronouns and recognizing pronoun errors in sentences. Lastly, I explained the writing assignment for next week, which is to write another 50-word or more editorial on any subject of her choice.

Following last week's session, I produced a two-page guide for the student with (a) a list of questions for her to ask herself while writing and (b) some basic rules and suggestions about grammar, syntax, punctuation and thinking. We discussed the guide and went further in talking through the way she thinks and translates her thoughts into writing. Towards the end of the session, we highlighted some themes for discussion in the next session including the relationship between thought at the point of going to sleep and writing at the point of waking, the necessity of being hard on oneself, and the balance between initiation and receptivity. It was an exciting session.

The student and I worked together on her college essay. She came prepared with her draft which was full of great information and ideas. The main struggle was cutting the essay down from 1200+ words to the required 650 words while maintaining the essence of her argument. After proofreading and revising the essay we worked together to make her essay more concise. She was happy with final product and found the session helpful. I was very happy that we were able to work together to produce a final product that represented her best work.
