I recently graduated Delaware State University in May 2014 with a degree in chemistry. I will be starting graduate school in August pursing a degree in forensics science. I've tutored at Delaware State University in Math and Chemistry, and I will continue to do so at Varsity Tutors! Although I have a degree in chemistry, my favorite subject to tutor is math. There are so many different methods to solving a math problem and getting the same answer. It is super easy for me to adapt and find a method best suited for the tutee, whether it is drawing pictures or using props. My teaching style can be described as "relatability" (yes, I made that word up!). I strive to make learning the particular subject relatable to real world instances because, let's face it, no one wants to learn something that they think they'll never use again or something that won't help them in life. Using the client's interest and conveying it in the problem yields better results makes learning fun.Outside of tutoring, I'm a culture freak. I love reading up on new cultures, listening to their music, and trying their foods. The world is so much bigger than the US and other cultures besides your own are so fascinating. I always have a book in my hand, and if time permitted, I can read about 3 books a month. My favorites are ghost stories/horror, mystery novels, and crime/detective novels.

I have over 6 years of experience working with youth as a Mentor and a Tutor. I continue to learn about myself and see similarities in others from everyone I meet. I believe my strength, as a Tutor, comes from being able to understand the students that I work with, and in building their confidence. I understand the effects that self-esteem and confidence have on the success of my students and how the ability or desire to learn is impacted by the support system they have access to.I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to reciprocate what life has given me. I enjoy motivating, inspiring growth, and development in others as, well as strengthening my communication skills.

Hello and thank you for your interest. My name is Stephanie and I've worked as a creative services producer for a local television station for a few years before becoming an elementary school teacher. I've always enjoyed working with children and was excited to take on the role as a Kindergarten teacher 7 years ago and also an online ESL teacher roughly 4 years ago. I often describe teaching as going to an ice cream party everyday: lots of fun, maybe some spills, different flavors of personalities and then more fun the next day. I take learning and educating very seriously however, in the classroom it's all about fun and adventures while learning. Thank you so much for your time and I hope to be your tutor soon.

Teaching music is not merely a profession but a profound and passionate commitment to shaping young minds and hearts through the transformative power of sound and expression. My philosophy as a music educator is rooted in the belief that every student possesses the potential to experience and contribute to the beauty of music. I aspire to create a nurturing and inspiring environment that fosters this potential, encouraging creativity, discipline, and a lifelong love for music. Teaching music is a privilege and a responsibility. It is a means of touching lives, inspiring creativity, and fostering a deep appreciation for the beauty of the human spirit. My philosophy as a music educator is to guide, inspire, and empower my students so that they may discover their unique musical voices and, in doing so, enrich their lives and the world around them through the profound gift of music.

When it comes to helping individuals learn, it has always been something I enjoyed. I love to help others learn and see their growth in the process. I hold a master's degree in early childhood education, as well as my teaching certification. I have been working with elementary students on their academics for over 10 years. I first started out helping elementary students by tutoring them in my after-school program. Shortly after I decided to work in the classroom where I taught kindergarten for four years and I am currently teaching 3rd grade.During this time, I also tutored after school with students at my school and students at a learning center. I believe all children can learn you just have to find out what works for them. I look at the student's needs while taking into consideration what we need to work on during each lesson. I hope I can make a difference in your child's life by helping them grow not only academically but have more motivation to always try their best.
