I then enrolled at the University of Mississippi, where I studied mathematics and earned my Masters of Arts degree. As a result of my academic experience I love tutoring math, particularly Algebra and Geometry. I also have a large amount of fondness for test prep. Although I'm happy to work with both in-person and online students, I believe that I would be most helpful to students who are looking for an online tutor, as I currently teach back-to-back classes at an online university and am comfortable with the interface and expectations.Previously, I worked as a tutor in a tutoring lab, where I would tutor in an open lab hour-for-hour up to the number of credits we were teaching each term--in my case, eight hours. I've taught both high school and college students, and also tutored for a commercial tutoring company in the 90s. I am a graduate of Carson Newman College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and of Florida State University with a master's degree in early childhood education. I love helping children learn to read fluently and with understanding. I have many years of experience with young learners and know that positive encouragement helps children feel comfortable enough to excel. I work with children from where they are comfortable moving on to more difficult skills. Reading is my passion however, I enjoy teaching and helping children discover new found skills. I work well with young, beginning readers readers, ADD and ADHD students. I have worked with ESL children learning English both in the classroom and online. I have a Master of Arts degree in English, an Education Specialist degree, and a Doctorate of Education. I've taught high school English for 24 years, and I still love it! I enjoy all of the subjects I teach, (I teach Speech and ACT Prep as well as English) but I especially love literature -- interpreting it and writing about it -- and grammar. I had an amazing grammar teacher who taught me that grammar makes sense, and I like turning on that light for others. I like meeting students, hearing about their challenges, and supporting them as they strive toward their goals. I've had great success helping students prepare for standardized tests, essays, and presentations. When I'm not teaching, I love to read, crochet, watch true crime documentaries, and hang out with my dog and family.

I graduated Carson-Newman University with my B.A. in Biology in 2014. I then completed a year of Physical Therapy School before getting my M.A.T. in education from the University of Memphis in 2019. My main job being a Science Teacher at the high school/middle school level. I have taught Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, ACT Math, Anatomy and Physiology, and Middle School Science. My favorite subjects to teach are lower math (middle school and algebra 1) and Biology. My teaching philosophy is relationships first. I believe that if you can trust your teacher, then you can learn from you teacher. I give examples, practice problems, and explain content from easy material to hard material to build on each other.
