Alice
Certified PSAT Tutor
Alice
BA Union College
4+ Years Tutoring

Alice's biology pre-med coursework at Union College keeps her sharp on the data-interpretation and quantitative reasoning questions that dominate the PSAT's math sections, while her 1550 SAT confirms she's mastered the full test architecture the PSAT mirrors. Where she really stands out is timing strategy — she teaches students to identify which question types to attack first in each section so they stop leaving easy points on the table. Rated 5.0 by students.

Sameer
BA University of Washington
1+ Years Tutoring

Because the PSAT mirrors the SAT's structure but serves as most students' first encounter with high-stakes standardized testing, building smart pacing habits early matters more than content review alone. Sameer walks students through timed section practice with a focus on when to skip, when to estimate, and how to eliminate answers efficiently across both the math and reading-writing modules.

Xiansheng
BA University of California-Berkeley
6+ Years Tutoring

Xiansheng's cellular and molecular biology training built the kind of quantitative reasoning and dense-text parsing that the PSAT tests across both its math and evidence-based reading sections. He uses his 1450 SAT experience to walk students through the specific algebra and data-interpretation question types that repeat on every form, while his bilingual background in Mandarin sharpens his ear for the grammar-in-context problems that native English speakers often overthink. Rated 4.7 by students.

Scoring a 1500 on the SAT means Angela already knows the exact question styles and content the PSAT throws at students — since both tests share the same format, just at different difficulty levels. She zeroes in on the evidence-based reading questions and grammar conventions that tend to trip up sophomores and juniors seeing them for the first time. Rated 5.0 by students, she also builds pacing strategies so no section feels rushed on test day.

Antonia
BA University of Washington
1+ Years Tutoring

The PSAT matters more than students realize — it's the qualifying exam for National Merit, and the scoring scale is unforgiving at the top. Antonia treats PSAT prep as early SAT training, covering everything from evidence-based reading strategies to no-calculator algebra techniques so students build habits that pay off twice. Her experience tutoring across K-12 subjects means she can adapt quickly whether a student needs help with reading comprehension, grammar conventions, or quadratic word problems.

Alex
BA Washington and Lee University
6+ Years Tutoring

Chemical engineering at Washington and Lee drilled the kind of systematic problem-solving that makes the PSAT's no-calculator math section click — setting up equations from word problems, manipulating expressions without reaching for a graphing calculator, and catching algebraic traps before they cost points. Alex pairs that quantitative strength with sharp reading and writing skills honed through an anthropology double major, which means the evidence-based passages and grammar-in-context questions get the same rigorous attention. His 1590 SAT and 36 ACT confirm he's mastered the full test architecture the PSAT is built from.

Nishad
BA Pennsylvania State University-Main Campus
1+ Years Tutoring

As a med student at Thomas Jefferson, Nishad reads dense scientific passages under time pressure every day — the same core skill the PSAT's Evidence-Based Reading section tests with unfamiliar social science and natural science passages. His 1580 SAT means he's already dominated the test the PSAT is built from, and his premed background keeps him sharp on the quantitative side, particularly the data-interpretation and Heart of Algebra questions that make up the bulk of the math sections.

Zhenrui
BA Columbia University in the City of New York
1+ Years Tutoring

Zhenrui's engineering coursework at Columbia means the PSAT's algebra-heavy math sections — Heart of Algebra, Passport to Advanced Math, no-calculator problems — are territory he navigates daily, and his 1570 SAT confirms he's mastered the full test architecture the PSAT draws from. What sets him apart is range: his premed track requires the same close reading of dense, technical passages that the Evidence-Based Reading section demands, so he's equally comfortable teaching students to decode a science passage as he is walking them through quadratic modeling.

Daniela
Current Undergrad Student, English Columbia University in the City of New York

Daniela's English coursework sharpens the exact close-reading instincts the PSAT's Writing and Language section depends on — spotting how a misplaced transition or awkward sentence weakens an argument in context. Her 1560 SAT means she's already conquered the test the PSAT is modeled after, and her fluency in Spanish and French gives her an unusual ear for the grammar-in-context questions where syntax patterns trip up monolingual test-takers.

Viktor

I'm referring to math, of course, but I didn't always like the subject. Until about age 16, I thought of math as a boring, mind-numbing process of blindly memorizing formulas and then forgetting them after the test, but a series of wonderful teachers showed me the truth. I had thought that everything in math was invented arbitrarily just to torture students, but actually it all made sense in a deep way. When I caught a glimpse of what math really was, I found it irresistible and I ended up majoring in math in college at UChicago. I'm currently a Master's student in Computer Science at NYU.

Elliot's neuroscience PhD means he's spent years doing exactly what the PSAT's reading passages demand — digesting complex arguments quickly, weighing evidence, and identifying the claims that actually hold up. That scientific rigor carries into the math sections too, where his quantitative reasoning and statistics background makes the data-analysis and Heart of Algebra questions feel routine. He scored a 1540 SAT and holds a 5.0 rating.

I'm currently a student at Northeastern University. Originally from Tennessee, I attended an all-male boarding and day school for high school, and was given a lot of opportunities to pursue advanced coursework and opportunities that weren't available to 99% of students in the area. As a result, I've joined Varsity Tutors as an effort to give back and try to help students get excited about learning various subjects, employing many of the methods that allowed me to succeed. While I tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about standardized test prep, math (all levels), writing, and economics.

BA Rice University • Doctor of Philosophy, Physics University of Michigan

I am a lifelong learner, teacher, and researcher in the field of physics. I received a PhD in Physics from the University of Michigan and a BS in Physics from Rice University. I have four years of physics teaching experience at the University of Michigan, primarily undergraduate laboratory courses with an emphasis on electromagnetism, circuits, waves, optics, and real-world applications of these and other physical phenomena. Many of these courses, including one I helped design, focused on helping non-STEM students master physics concepts that may be difficult to grasp in a standard classroom setting. I have tutored in a variety of subjects since high school, but most recently I have spent several years helping students understand concepts and succeed in coursework throughout a large variety of college-level physics topics, from basic mechanics to advanced electrodynamics and special relativity.

Keith
BA Williams College • Juris Doctor, Prelaw Studies Cornell University

Political science at Williams meant Keith spent four years constructing tight, evidence-backed arguments — the exact skill the PSAT's Writing and Language section tests when it asks students to evaluate sentence placement, strengthen claims, and choose the most effective phrasing in context. His 1560 SAT shows he can execute across all sections under pressure, and his additional strength in math means he covers the algebra-heavy no-calculator questions with the same confidence he brings to passage analysis.

Whether you need homework help, exam prep, or want to get ahead, our PSAT tutors are ready to help.

Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying learning to new problems. These issues can snowball quickly in PSAT.

A tutor identifies where you're stuck, fills in gaps, and provides targeted practice. The 1-on-1 format means you get help exactly where you need it.

Tutors work with your student's actual coursework—homework assignments, class notes, and upcoming tests. This keeps tutoring directly relevant to what's happening in the classroom.
