I completed my Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a major in integrated science and a minor in chemistry at Central Michigan University in 2009. I received my Master of Science in Educational Leadership-Principalship from Saginaw Valley State University in 2013.Since completing my undergraduate degree, I have been employed as a full-time classroom teacher working with a variety of classes at multiple grade levels. Courses that I have taught include high school general chemistry, physics, and astronomy, as well as 6th and 7th grade general science and 6th grade crime scene investigation.My passion for teaching science stems from a deep-seeded desire to understand the world around me. I recall having countless questions as a child about topics ranging from animal adaptations, atoms, and the universe at large. Discovering answers to these questions has always been an empowering experience for me, and I have found my calling in cultivating this curiosity within those I teach.In my spare time, I enjoy coaching basketball (I am the head coach of a 9th grade basketball team during the winter months), playing sports (basketball, golf, tennis, etc.), and, of course, learning more about the wonderful world of science!

I have had an amazing teaching journey over the past 22 years. I have a wealth of experience in K-8, dually certified in General and Special Education. One of my most memorable experiences was teaching abroad in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates as an English Medium Teacher and an Inclusion Coach. It was exciting not only to teach children the English Language, but to learn and experience the cultural opportunities. I consider myself to be a lifelong learner. My philosophy is that children are unique and can learn in different ways. It is my desire and duty to provide engaging, high quality educational experiences to ensure that students meet their maximum potential.

After studying Biochemistry at Long Beach State and graduating with a Bachelor's in Psychology from Central Michigan University, I have a thorough background in Natural Sciences & Mathematics. My expertise in Mathematics and Science also comes from over three years of experience tutoring students ages eight and above in simple to complex Math, Chemistry, Essay Writing, Study Skills, and more. I find great reward and drive in assisting students work through challenges. I am not one to teach as much as guide because I believe in individuals' capacities for growth in efficient learning. Hello! My name is Annika Cushnyr and I am currently a senior at Central Michigan University where I am a member of the Honors Program and studying French and Political Science. I will graduate in May 2019 and will then head off to law school. I am hoping to build a legal career centered around human and civil rights!Outside of school, I love traveling and have been to over 20 countries, living in 4 of them for extended amounts of time. In addition to French, I am currently studying Spanish and have studied Swedish and Latin in the past.

I earned a B.S. in Education with a focus on English and History and an M.A. in Educational Technology from Central Michigan University in 2010 and 2015 respectively. I have been a professional secondary educator for over six years, working in middle and high schools in Kansas, Florida, and Michigan.I can tutor middle and high school students in all areas of Language Arts, but my favorite is writing. I love helping kids become better writers. Reading and writing are both very personal experiences. As a teacher and as a tutor, I think it is important to build a more personal relationship between learner and educator, so I use lots of humor and personal experiences when working with students.When I am not working with students, I love reading. My favorite thing to read is young adult fiction, especially fantasy fiction. I also love watching Marvel movies and movies based on Y.A. fiction. I love comparing the book and the movie. Most of my time is spent with my family; I have a husband of six years, a one-and-a-half-year-old son (who keeps my life very exciting), and another boy due in June!

I've been a tutor for more than 10 years. I received my Master of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University and Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University. I received my undergraduate degree in English and History from CMU. For many years, I've taught English, Communication, and Sociology at the college level. I am very active in my community. English is my passion. Currently, I serve as secretary on the board of directors at Raise It Up Youth Arts and Awareness. I also teach a creative writing course at the Boys and Girls Club in Flint, Michigan. In addition, I serve as volunteer Retention Trainer for the American Red Cross Club.I enjoy working with learners of all ages. As a tutor, I see it as my my responsibility to help my clients strengthen their knowledge bases. Whether it's History or an English literature assignment, I like to work with learners until the assignment is complete and, more importantly, they feel confident in facing the challenges that come with any subject.

I received my Masters of Arts degree in Teaching Elementary Mathematics over 20 years ago. Since graduation, I was nominated, "Michigan Teacher of the Year." I was selected out of many applicants, as one of our district's Master Math Teachers. I am most passionate about instilling the love of Math in my students. One way this love of Math has been displayed is when I provided the 1st District-Wide Math Bee template to the former Math Director. My Math Bee template set the stage for our District's annual Math Bees(over 8 years ago.) I believe every student can excel in Math, regardless of their learning style and their zip code. I have had remarkable success with my students over the years (My students' test scores have afforded me the opportunity to earn the honorable title, "Master Math" teacher.) I am most proud of the title, "Mom." I have three children.One of my children was diagnosed with a learning disability. It brought me so much joy to create songs and rhymes to help him learn Math in his own classroom. My special needs son has since graduated(C/O 2019.) My daughter received a scholarship to Michigan State(C/O 2020.) My youngest son is currently in high school. In my spare time, I enjoy learning new Math techniques, bike riding and watching basketball.

I have a Elementary teaching degree as well as a Special Education teaching degree with endorsements in cognitive impairment and autism spectrum disorder. I have been teaching for 9 years and I love to help students learn, especially when they are struggling. I enjoy the challenge of finding new and different approaches that fit each individuals strengths and interests. One of my own children has Autism. I have been fortunate to be able to learn from my experiences as a parent in my teaching.

I have considered teaching a way of discovering the men, bridges, and villages that populate the world around me. Through my teaching of writing, as well as my own writing and reading, I delve into the hearts of many different souls, each with a perspective that I do not have. My purpose in teaching writing, speaking, acting, literature, and humanities is to draw that individual perspective out of each student who comes to me to learn. Writing, as well as acting and public speaking, allows the quiet ??? the shy ??? a voice. That voice needs to be heard, for it is through hearing all of the voices around us that we can truly begin to understand the variety and beauty that surrounds us everyday.This philosophy of education has been honed over many years of writing, acting, and teaching. Through my own writing and performances, I have gained insights into my own soul: my own likes and dislikes, my own dreams and perspectives. Through teaching, I have learned many things I never would have thought to know: how to field-dress a deer, how to make sushi, what worries a sixteen-year-old girl who feels alone in a school with hundreds of other sixteen-year-old girls, what a young boy believes science will one day discover, and why one man???s family may be different than the ???norm??? but is still a loving, nurturing group. In my teaching, I do a lot of modeling, understanding that sometimes students need guides to follow on the way to self-expression. As a passionate educator with a Master's degree in Biology from Central Michigan University, I have been teaching (and tutoring) since 2001. My classroom experience is in subjects like Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Biology. My teaching philosophy centers on patience and understanding, recognizing that every question reflects a student's genuine curiosity. I strive to create a supportive learning environment by utilizing visual aids and step-by-step processes, which help students grasp complex concepts. I enjoy connecting with college and non-traditional students, as well as high school learners, often incorporating engaging case studies that relate to real-world scenarios. My goal is to inspire students to appreciate the intricacies of biology while fostering their academic success. Outside of teaching, I enjoy running, crocheting, watching movies and television and I like to play the occasional board game.

As you can probably tell, I am passionate about helping others learn. I believe that all students can lean, when provided with the proper tools. I have a diverse background in education, having worked as a teacher in all grades, K-12, special education, and adult education. Additionally, I've held roles as a lead teacher, literacy coach, instructional specialist, academic engagement administrator, assistant principal, principal, and director. I hold five teacher certifications and four administrator certifications. I am also a proficient instructional coach certified through the MDE. I graduated from MSU, U of D, WSU, SVSU and CMU. I have an insatiable thirst for learning and take great joy in instilling that same love for learning in others!

I am a graduate of Purdue University where I received my Certification for Lean Six Sigma and have worked for several years as a Blackbelt. I LOVE to problem solve and there are always problems to solve whether it be what school to attend or where to work or how to save money or profit the most. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Community Development which perfectly aligned me to help develop students of all ages! I have traveled around the country of U.S. as an expert in the fields of Project Management and teach Project Management, Six Sigma and teach all facets of problem solving, process improvements, continuous improvements, change management. I have a start to finish course in Six Sigma, I have guides use anywhere to help students. I have used my Six Sigma which used to be called Statistical Problem Solving / Engineering for cost effective cooking. The kitchen is not just a place to chill out, its a place of business. I also published a cookbook for "Teens of Cancer" giving proceeds to teenagers that have a loved one with cancer. I would love to share the opportunity to tutor children and adults. I was a child with ADHD and understand the struggles involved and was extremely happy to hear that IQs tend to be extremely high of people like me. I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening and my dogs, Sammy and Sofia.
