I'm a friendly tutor with experience teaching computer science and designing curricula. When teaching computer science concepts, I am big on drawing pictures and diagrams in order to explain things. I am a former high school science teacher in the New York City Department of Education who has returned to school myself to pursue a degree in genetic counseling. I received a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Bard College in 2012, with a specialization in secondary science education. During my time as a teacher, I also offered after school tutoring sessions to my students in science, ELA, and SAT prep. In my five years as a teacher, I developed a passion for helping students learn to love science and perfect their reading and writing skills. I believe that an effective teacher or tutor meets students where they're at, whatever their skill level, and then helps them set goals and strive for growth.As a former teacher, I have a wealth of experience designing learning activities to meet a variety of different learning styles and needs. Currently an ESL night class instructor for adults, I've been tutoring and teaching since 2013, when I graduated from Bard College with a BA in Written Arts and Spanish. A lover of language and literature, I taught English in rural Spain for a year to elementary school students. While in Spain, I also provided private writing and essay-prep classes to students of all ages, including adults. In addition, I have three years of experience as an academic support teacher at a middle/high school in Western Massachusetts. This position entailed helping students with homework in all the subjects, particularly reading, writing (including college essay writing), and Spanish. Although I do enjoy classroom teaching, I love tutoring because working one-on-one with students lets me get to know them personally and tailor lessons to their interests.

I am a recent graduate of Bard College, where I studied Written Arts and Arabic. I wrote a 70,000 word novel as my senior thesis, and I am now attempting to have it published. I love cooking, and in the past I worked as a cook in a restaurant. I also worked as manual laborer for a landscape company, but, unfortunately, that did not lead to a love of gardening. I am an avid reader of all genres, and I love movies and TV as well. I love to travel , and I love languages, although my fluency in anything but English is questionable.

I have two master's degrees, one in literature and the other in journalism. I have taught German to English-speaking students, English to German speakers and English literacy to English speakers. I also have broad experience as a mentor. I enjoy the interaction that comes with teaching and tutoring and love to see people become more effective in their everyday lives as a result of our sessions.During my off hours I enjoy reading, making jewelry and walking for exercise.

I'm a former NYC high school teacher with a master's degree from Pace University's School of Education. I have also worked as a college tutor, a high school mentor, and a teaching assistant in New Orleans. I currently accompany choirs on the piano and teach music at a small rural school in Montana. Learning is essentially delightful. You only live once! Do you want to understand the world or not! No two people learn the same way; I often learn things indirectly or by accident. As a child I had an embarrassing speech impediment - I couldn't pronounce "r" until I was 13. I had to drink milkshakes through straws everyday to strengthen my jaw muscles, and study diagrams of tongues forming different shapes. Now I speak perfectly. That learning experience taught me both discipline and inventiveness: you have to work hard, but there's no right or wrong way to do anything.I am a playwright, educator, and graduate of Bard College. I work part time as a literary assistant at off-Broadway theater Playwrights Horizons, where I read play submissions and write thoughtful response letters. For three years, I worked as Enrichment Director at a Shakespeare education program at New Pond Farm in Redding, Connecticut. I helped teenaged actors struggle through difficult passages of iambic pentameter in Twelfth Night and Macbeth. The goal was not only to understand but ultimately even enjoy yes, enjoy Shakespeares dense and often bewildering sonnets, comedies, and tragedies.My hobbies including playing ukulele and chess. I am pursuing a career as a playwright, and have shown original work in New York at The Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, SoHo Rep, and elsewhere. I believe whole-heartedly in the importance of education and the essentially joyful nature of learning. Sharing that with others is a dream job.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Bard College, with a foundation in algebra, geometry, calculus, linear algebra, and discrete math. I extended my training through one semester of Bard's Master of Arts in Teaching program, assisting in middle school math instruction. In May 2025, I completed Per Scholas with a perfect 100 and graduated as valedictorian. I hold CompTIA CySA+, Google Cybersecurity Professional, Splunk Core, and three Cisco certifications. For six years I have run a private teaching practice for students Pre-K through 12th grade, online and in person. My method is research-driven and individualized. When an elementary student struggled with long division, I tested multiple approaches until I found what worked for her, then built games around her interests. Her parents reported she became fully independent and scored 100% on her assessments. I also support students with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, autism, and processing disorders.

I have always been driven by my passion of contributing to positive educational growth. This has led me to pursue various civic engagement opportunities while studying social psychology at Bard College, as well as related social development projects at The New School for Public Engagement where I earned a Master's in Nonprofit Management. During my undergraduate study, I spent two summers in Qingdao, Northern China achieving fluency in Mandarin Chinese and researching early childhood behavior in Chinese preschools (Qingdao University). Subsequently, I spent one semester in Hong Kong engaging in a cross-cultural social psychology exchange program (Lingnan University).I am excited to work with students on subjects of my expertise: English, reading, writing, verbal SATS, regents exams, and Chinese Mandarin. I have served as a tutor to students of all ages, from kindergarten to first-year college students. What makes me a great tutor is my level of commitment and my genuine desire to see my students succeed.

I am recent graduate of Bard College and the Bard College Conservatory of Music, where I graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and a B.M. in Music Performance. I have several years of experience tutoring a variety of subjects, including Politics/Government, US History, ESL, and Beginning Mandarin Chinese. In terms of my experience tutoring Mandarin, I am particulalry experienced in helping students work on fundamental pronunciation and speaking skills. As a classical musician, I have had the opportunity to perform in fifteen countries. I am currently working as a political professional in New York City, and have experience working on a variety of political campaigns and in the government offices of U.S. Senator Tom Harkin and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
