Katie is a professionalized special educator licensed teacher for students who are deaf/hard of hearing. Katie has a bachelor's in speech-language pathology, a master's in special education-deaf education, and working towards a doctorate degree in special education with a focus on policy and administration. She also teaches teacher preparation courses at the collegiate level. Her research interests are in universal design, assistive technology, and accessible educational materials with aiding in student access to grade-level curriculum.

I have been tutoring students in biology for 3+ years. I have a master's in biology and an undergraduate degree in fisheries biology. I am passionate about helping students because I love biology, and I want to help others foster a positive relationship with biology. I am comfortable tutoring college level biology, natural sciences, and anatomy courses. I have a strong background in natural resources so I love working with those classes, but I also enjoy tutoring general biology because that is the basis for future classes.

I have a BA and MA in Classical Latin, and I was educated at Ball State University (Muncie, IN) and The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have also done post-graduate work in Latin at the University of Chicago, and I have written a Latin text book (Ovid's Heroides I) which is currently in use in some high schools.In addition to academic writing, I am also a published fiction writer. My short stories have appeared in various literary journals. I am currently working on a novel.I have thirteen years of experience teaching in independent schools (Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, Elgin Academy, and the Latin School of Chicago). I have traveled with high school students to many destinations both domestically and in Europe. I am passionate about helping students with their study of Latin (a great language!) and about helping them improve the craftsmanship of their writing--from poetry and fiction to college essays and everything in between.I have lived in Chicago, a city I love, for ten years. Every student learns a different way and it is the tutor's responsibility to figure that way out. This may include some trial and error. Each student has a unique learning style and it is the tutor's responsibility to figure this out and accommodate the student. Children must understand the basics and have a firm foundation before they can build on this and soar to the heights they have the ability to attain. One of the most gratifying experiences for a teacher is helping students achieve knowledge and truly understand and master a technique or concept. I am a creative storyteller and problem-solver. I have created content for national institutions and organizations such as Mobilize Art and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), as well as for a variety of local clients. In addition, I have also contributed over twenty articles to Louisville.com.I received my BFA in Visual Communications from Ball State University, where I also acquired a strong set of photography and image editing skills. I then completed my MA in Graphic Design at SCAD, where I am currently finalizing my thesis for an MFA in Writing via eLearning.As a member of the Louisville Kendo Club and a gigantic nerd, I am drawn to the fantastical and out-of-this-world.
