I have a BA in English, Government, and Secondary Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. I also have a Master of Arts in Christian Education and Leadership from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. My plan for the near future is to earn a Doctorate degree in Secondary Education from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. During the course of my 30 + years of teaching, I have one consistent observation: All students can learn! The challenge and excitement for me over the years is to figure out how my students learn and what motivates them to learn. I enjoy teaching in a classroom setting, but I thoroughly enjoy working one-on-one with students. I am fulfilled as a teacher in many ways such as when I can help one of my 10th graders past a difficult test or assist one of my seniors to perform well enough to get accepted to the college of his or her dreams! My strongest teaching passions are English literature and language. Outside the classroom, I play keyboards in a local band, I lift weights, and ride my Harley Davidson whenever I have opportunity.

I will be graduating in December 2022 from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minors in public health and Spanish. I've worked with peers and those in my classes as a tutor to them, and I like seeing everyone succeed in the subject matter. I enjoy all subjects to learn but feel more qualified in my areas of studies related to my major and minors. While it is important to come to a teacher/tutor for help if one has questions, it is even more important to get to the point of figuring problems out in your own way. There are garden variety formulas, equations, variables, etc. in Mathematics and Statistics that may call for "memorization", but it is of utmost importance that a learner be able to use their own reasoning to work through problems. For me, it is important that I communicate problems in real-world context and emphasize that there is almost always more than one way to think about a problem.
