3+ Years Tutoring

I've helped several hundred students in a wide variety of subjects, from executive functioning to computer science to standardized testing. I also help students with general support in math and English. Most of my students are around 9-17, but I work well with students who are older and a little younger as well. I also work very well with students who have specific obstacles or requirements, such as neurodiversity support or schedules that change a lot. Most of my background is in computer science, from my college major to my experience hands-on over the past 10 years. Regardless of the subject, I believe every student's needs are unique and every student is able to achieve great things with the right preparation and support. My number one goal is to provide that whenever I can, both to the student and to their parents. I communicate with parents outside of sessions a lot to establish their expectations, better understand students, and recommend ways they can directly support their children in their journey as well.

Currently a second-year law student at the University of Chicago, Elena tackled the LSAT recently enough to remember exactly where the logic games and conditional reasoning trips people up. She teaches Analytical Reasoning by breaking each game into setup diagrams and inference chains, so students stop staring at the board and start eliminating answers with confidence. Her perfect 1600 SAT speaks to her comfort with high-stakes standardized tests, and her 4.9 rating shows that approach translates to her students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Score improvement depends on your starting point and study intensity, but most students see meaningful gains through focused preparation. Many students improve by 5-10 points or more over several months of consistent study with personalized guidance. A tutor can identify your specific weak areas—whether that's logical reasoning, reading comprehension, or logic games—and create a targeted study plan to address them.

Your first session typically includes a diagnostic assessment to understand your current strengths and weaknesses across the three main sections: logical reasoning, reading comprehension, and analytical reasoning (logic games). Your tutor will review your goals, timeline for taking the test, and target score, then develop a personalized study plan tailored to your learning style and schedule. This foundation helps ensure every subsequent session builds toward your specific objectives.

Logic games are often the most challenging section for LSAT test-takers because they require both pattern recognition and strategic diagramming. A tutor can teach you proven diagramming techniques, help you recognize game types quickly, and build your speed through targeted practice. With personalized feedback on your approach, you'll develop the confidence and efficiency needed to tackle these games under timed conditions.

Timing is crucial on the LSAT, and many students struggle with pacing across the three sections. Tutors help you develop section-specific strategies—like which questions to tackle first, how long to spend on each problem, and when to make educated guesses. Through timed practice tests and targeted drills, you'll build the speed and confidence needed to complete each section while maintaining accuracy.

Reading comprehension requires both understanding complex passages and answering questions accurately under time pressure. Tutors teach active reading techniques, help you identify main ideas and author arguments quickly, and develop strategies for different question types. With practice on real LSAT passages and personalized feedback, you'll learn to navigate dense material efficiently while maintaining the accuracy needed for a strong score.

Practice tests are essential—they help you build stamina, identify weak areas, and simulate test-day conditions. Most students benefit from taking full-length practice tests regularly throughout their preparation. Your tutor will review your practice test results in detail, pinpoint patterns in your mistakes, and adjust your study plan accordingly, ensuring your preparation is data-driven and efficient.

Yes. Test anxiety often stems from uncertainty about your abilities or unfamiliarity with the test format. Working with a tutor builds confidence through repeated exposure to real LSAT questions, timed practice, and proven test-taking strategies. As you develop competence in each section and see your scores improve, anxiety naturally decreases—and your tutor can also provide mental strategies for managing stress on test day.

Look for tutors with strong LSAT scores themselves, proven experience helping students improve, and deep knowledge of the test's structure and question types. Ideally, your tutor should have a track record of score improvements and be able to explain their teaching approach clearly. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who meet these standards and can provide personalized instruction aligned with your goals and timeline.
