As an undergraduate, I attended Kent State University and majored in English with a minor called The Writing Certificate Program. After graduating, I earned an assistantship to the University of Toledo where I was able to teach Composition 1 and 2. I then transferred into the education department to earn my Masters in Secondary Education with a concentration in English. After graduate school, I began teaching middle school English and then moved on to high school English, where I have been teaching for twenty-three years. In 2012, I returned to graduate school to earn the Tesol license endorsement to facilitate educational services for English Learners. I also tutor students who are newer to the English language needing basic interpersonal communication or who need to advance beyond achieving an intermediate proficiency level. I have also worked as a professional learning coach for a private organization and specialized in the administration of the CAT test. My favorite part about working one to one with students is being able to focus entirely on assisting that one person to make progress. As a tutor, I have been able to help many students go from struggling in the subject matter to excelling at school beyond the target subject. As a veteran teacher who has taught at both the high school and college levels, I have a close familiarity with the skills and knowledge vital to succeed on the verbal sides of standardized testing such as ACT, SAT, state testing, and more . I am a member of a nature writing group centered within the Cuyahoga Valley MetroPark System and share my home currently with three rescued animals. My hobbies include al things outdoors such as kayaking, hiking, biking, and otherwise enjoying nature.
