About Me

Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Ian, and I am looking forward to working with you. I have two years of work experience in software engineering and one year of tutoring/teaching experience. Graduating from Georgetown University and Flatiron School's Data Science boot camp has provided me with a robust education in STEM disciplines and foreign languages that I hope will be of help to you! At Georgetown, I earned a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Arabic and had the opportunity to study at the University of Seville, Spain. I have that experience to thank for my conversational and written fluency in Spanish. My interest in computer science was sparked in an introductory Python course, for which I served as a Teaching Assistant the following semester. I led "hands-on" lab sessions each week focused on solving more lengthy coding challenges and helping students with issues. Teaching in a college course made me comfortable with virtual tutoring since it was during the initial COVID lockdown. I have been living in New York City since graduation, where I completed my Data Science boot camp and started work as a Scientific Software Engineer in computational drug discovery. Specifically, I was on the Force Field Development team, working with seasoned researchers and computational chemists to overhaul and improve our parametrization models for simulating potential drug candidates. As a result of my time in NYC, I have become an advanced user of Python, a more confident programmer, and a persistent problem-solver. I am passionate about learning and helping others learn, so I hope to help you achieve your best in your chosen subject!
