Bachelors, Integrated Language Arts Kent State University at Kent
  • I received my Bachelor's degree in education from Kent State University and am licensed to teach 7-12 English/Language Arts.
  • I am able to teach literature, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, study skills and organizational skills.

About Me

I have two years of experience in the classroom, including my student teaching. I have taught 9th grade Honors English, 10th grade English (with a mix of honors and college prep students) and 11th grade English. I have taught a wide variety of literature (from Shakespeare to young adult novels to nonfiction to poetry) and focused heavily on writing and grammar during my teaching experiences. I believe that all students learn differently, and I get to know students first to see what his/her learning style is, interests, hobbies, favorite class, etc. This helps me shape assignments and lessons. I try to give students choices in projects or assignments to meet their needs and interests. For example: if I know a student likes sports, I may give him/her an essay to write about regarding sports--maybe a prompt such as: Should all students be required to participate in at least one sport while in school? Defend your position. If a student is more of a visual, creative learner, I may have him/her create a comic strip based off of what we just read in Macbeth. I also differentiate my instruction based on student's level of understanding. Rather than starting off with hard questions that may frustrate a student, I give basic, comprehension questions until the student is more familiar with the material. I work one-on-one with students, in small groups or as a whole class. I am always available to students for extra help when needed, because my goal as an educator is to help students succeed in school. Outside of school, I like to read and write, cook, go shopping, go to the movies, explore Cleveland more (lived here my whole life and never seen everything Cleveland has to offer), go to Indians and Monsters games, and hang out with friends. I am hard working, punctual, patient, and flexible with my schedule.
