Between philosophy seminars, research writing, and a genuine love of the craft, Tim has spent years learning how to make complex ideas land clearly on the page. He tackles everything from thesis development and paragraph architecture to voice and word choice, adapting his feedback to whatever genre or assignment a student is working on.

Yasmeen studied history and political science at the University of Pennsylvania, where writing was the throughline of every course — crafting thesis statements, structuring arguments, and revising drafts until every paragraph earned its place. She brings that same revision-heavy approach to tutoring, breaking down everything from persuasive essays to research papers into clear, repeatable steps.
I am passionate about helping students because I've been a student my whole life! Even though I'm a professor now, I love to learn. And now that I have experience, I love to help others along the learning journey. I have degrees in English and education from Rice University, UT Austin, Texas State, and Texas A&M. I also studied abroad in England at the University of East Anglia and have traveled to many countries. I tutor English and Spanish (my family is from Mexico City). My favorite thing to tutor is writing, and I have taught writing from the Kindergarten-graduate school (Ph.D.) level (what I currently do). I am here to share tools and tips to help you succeed in your learning journey.
Iliana treats writing as a craft that improves through deliberate practice, not vague inspiration. From thesis construction to paragraph-level transitions, she breaks the revision process into concrete tasks — identifying a claim, marshaling evidence, cutting filler — so students leave each session with a repeatable method for stronger prose.
Strong writing comes down to knowing what to cut and what to develop, and Sam's background in both human biology and the humanities means he's comfortable coaching across genres — from lab reports to personal narratives. He breaks the revision process into concrete steps: thesis clarity, paragraph-level logic, sentence variety, and word choice.
I'm a 2016 graduate of Pepperdine University with my Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Currently I'm preparing to apply to optometry school; I hope to be accepted for the 2018-19 academic year. During my time in college, I was involved as a teaching assistant for General Chemistry I and II laboratory, as a tutor for General Chemistry I, as a member of the Regents Scholar Student Board, and as a "small group" leader through multiple organizations. I am a member of the sorority Pi Beta Phi and held the positions of Historian, Senior Transition Leader, and member of the Leadership and Nominating Committee during my undergraduate years. As far as tutoring goes, I offer my services to students of all ages and in numerous subjects. I particularly enjoy tutoring the STEM subjects. I also thoroughly enjoy working with female STEM students, which allows me to serve as a role model and to offer additional encouragement for my female students to not lose interest in STEM subjects. A large part of my tutoring style focuses on logical thinking for how to tackle new and difficult problems using previous knoledge and educated hypotheses; I have found that my students find both success and a boost in confidence using my methodology. Aside from my academic interests, I love cooking and baking, my cat, photography, and National Parks.
Getting ideas onto the page is only half the challenge — organizing them into a clear argument with strong transitions and purposeful structure is where most students struggle. Phonemany's anthropology background trained her to build written arguments from evidence, and she brings that same discipline to teaching thesis development, paragraph cohesion, and revision strategies. Rated 5.0 by students.
Strong writing starts with a clear argument, not a five-paragraph formula. Justin's training in anthropology and political analysis taught him to build evidence-based claims from scratch, and he applies that same process when teaching students to outline, draft, and revise persuasive or analytical essays. He holds a 5.0 rating from students.
Strong writing starts before the first sentence — with a clear claim and a plan for how each paragraph supports it. Sanda's English background and current ESOL graduate work mean she's equally comfortable coaching someone through argumentative structure, narrative voice, or the mechanics of clean, precise prose.
Forensic science demands precise, evidence-based writing — every lab report and case analysis Kyle produces in his program requires clear argumentation backed by data. He brings that same rigor to teaching essay structure, thesis development, and revision strategies, showing students how to build a convincing written argument from the ground up.
Clear writing starts with understanding how to build an argument — thesis, evidence, analysis — and Alexis teaches each piece as a distinct skill before combining them. Her International Relations background at Tulane meant producing research-heavy papers under tight deadlines, and she brings that same structured drafting process to every student she works with. Rated 4.9 by students.
Getting ideas onto the page is one challenge; organizing them into a coherent argument is another entirely. Mackenzie teaches outlining and paragraph-level structure as concrete skills — topic sentences that actually preview the paragraph, evidence that connects back to a thesis — so students can replicate the process independently on any assignment.
Brandon treats writing as a process of thinking on the page, not performing. Pursuing his English degree at UNLV, he walks students through everything from generating ideas and building outlines to crafting thesis-driven arguments with clean, purposeful prose. His own experience producing music also gives him an ear for rhythm and flow in sentences.
Most writing struggles aren't about grammar — they're about organization. Zachary teaches students how to build an argument from a clear thesis outward, connecting each paragraph with purposeful transitions and supporting claims with specific evidence. His magna cum laude work at Dartmouth and a master's thesis at the University of Toronto gave him extensive practice turning messy ideas into polished prose.
I am a freshman Computer Science major enrolled in the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University. I have a passion for teaching students, and I am experienced with having to give one-on-one guidance in teaching many concepts. Tutoring is very rewarding for me because I am driven to help others and give whatever knowledge I have gained over the years in every field. I also have experience dealing with situations in which students are not quickly or readily grasping concepts, and I have developed the patience to handle these situations. Teaching is just as rewarding for the student as it is for me, because I am thrilled when I see others achieve, and I would love to be part of the process. In addition to high school AP courses and test prep, I have taken college level multivariable calculus, linear algebra, physics electricity/magnetism and mechanics, computer programming (c++, matlab, LISP/Scheme), Dynamics of Systems, and Mechanics of Systems.
I am Cassie Bishop, and for seven years, I have been dedicated to helping students of different age groups (from middle school to college) in mostly math and science. As someone driven to become a professor, I love to teach and have a great passion for sharing my knowledge with others! I am most passionate about math and hard sciences, such as biology, chemistry, and physics and have most experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students. My mission is to develop students' problem-solving skills so that they can get to the answers on their own to not only improve their homework scores but also help on quizzes and tests through better knowledge of the material. I hope to be able to help you with all of your tutoring needs and to promote student success!
I am a former math teacher who has a masters degree in math education. I have taught pre-algebra all the way to calculus! I have taught college math courses as well as PSAT/SAT prep courses, and teacher PRAXIS CORE boot camps. My goal is to ensure that you are successful in your career as a math student and future teacher! Hablo Espanol.
I am a recent graduate from Tufts University with a major in International Relations and a minor in Economics. I have been helping students since I was in middle school working with students of all ages from kindergarten to college. Prior to spending four years at Tufts, I attended a boarding school in Massachusetts where I was committed to tutoring middle school students at a local Boys and Girls' Club for all four years. I always enjoyed seeing the energy of younger students who were eager to learn and their visible improvements. I also worked as a teaching assistant for an SAT prep center where I tutored SAT verbal and writing along with SAT II literature and math. I moved to Las Vegas a few months ago after finishing up college, and I would love to get back to working with students on a regular basis because I understand the importance of education and enjoy helping and seeing results. My favorite subject to teach is SAT because with the right help it is a standardized test that can see huge improvements in scores. Writing section is especially my forte because I think that grammar is the basic building block of the English language that deserves a little more attention in school. I feel a great sense of fulfillment when students start to understand the different structures of English sentences and appreciate such knowledge. In my spare time, I like to stay active and go to yoga classes, including antigravity yoga, and drive to national parks for fresh air. I am also a big foodie who enjoys regular trips to different restaurants with friends and an avid movie fan. I look forward to meeting with students here in Las Vegas!
I am currently a student of the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). I am working toward a Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Sciences degree with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology. Since my high school years, I have worked tirelessly through the community, tutoring my peers in my school's magnet program and children with learning disabilities for a nonprofit organization dealing with autism research. Though I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most interested in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In all my years as a tutor, I have always tried to stress the importance of education in changing one's life to my students, being a firm believer in the power of knowledge and education's role in bringing out the best of people. In my leisure time, I enjoy running, tennis, pleasure reading to enrich my mind, and playing the ever soothing melodies of the piano.
I am currently studying for my Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I tutor my peers at the university level, but enjoy working with younger students as well. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I love tutoring Math and English! I find that students develop an appreciation for Math and English when they thoroughly understand these subjects, and it is my goal to develop this understanding in each of my students.
I'm a sophomore at USC studying Biomedical Engineering. In high school, I maintained a 4.0 GPA while participating in organizations like Mu Alpha Theta so that I could tutor struggling math students in subjects ranging from Algebra to Calculus III. Seeing how comfortable I was in the environment really made an impact on me, and I want to continue that experience tutoring through Varsity Tutors both online and in person. Students I have tutored before in math and standardized testing subjects tell me that my strategies and quick methods for arriving at solutions saves them a great deal of time and energy as they take their exams, which reaffirms my passion and love of tutoring. In my classroom experiences, I found that sometimes the methods that were taught were just too confusing, so then I either created or looked up better ways that secured a better grade for me in the class; the idea that the same problem can be solved in many ways is an idea I try to impart in all of my students so that they can feel comfortable using a process they picked out instead. In my free time, Iove to watch movies, play Super Smash Bros, listen to new music, and read articles on Flipboard.
I am currently an undergraduate at Ohio State University. I am studying economics with a math minor in the Honors College of Arts and Sciences.
I am a Junior in college, working towards my Bachelor's Degree in History, and then work at my Law degree. I tutor American History, AP World History and Test prep. My favorite subjects to tutor is American History and Chinese History. American History can still be seen in American life today, and China is one of the oldest countries to study. I have a very encouraging and introspective learning style, where I will give students advice to study and perfect their skills, but allow them to think thoughtfully about what they did that did not work and what they should do next time.
I am a Junior pursing Accounting and Finance at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Bloomington. I have 8+ years of experience tutoring students from ages 7-40 years old. Patience with each of my students is what helps me be the best tutor in their learning process. I don't teach students but rather I involve them in the learning process so that they can be confident when solving the problems at hand.
I'm passionate about teaching. I do my best learning when I need to teach a subject from different angles of understanding.
I'm Kat. I'm a math and science enthusiast with a passion for helping others understand and appreciate the science (and its applications) of our fascinating world.
I'm 18 years old and I am a sophomore at Fordham University. I promise I won't disappoint!

Clear writing is a skill Silvana has sharpened across decades of business communication — drafting proposals, crafting marketing copy, and presenting ideas to international audiences. She teaches students how to organize their thoughts into a logical structure, choose precise words, and revise with purpose, whether the assignment is a persuasive essay or a research paper.
I love teaching patiently and accurately to achieve concrete goals. A National Merit scholar, a college student, and an aspiring writer, I encourage high achievement and creativity in all my students. With 2+ years of tutoring experience and 1+ years of teaching experience, both in-person and online, I will gladly adapt to your educational and personal needs! Primarily, I tutor the SAT and ACT. I have the most experience in tutoring English (up to 12th grade) and math (up to Algebra II/pre-calc). I can also tutor competitive Lincoln-Douglas and policy debate as well as Impromptu speech at a middle/high school level or general public speaking and argumentation. My favorite subjects are English, which I am pursuing at UNLV, and Speech & Debate, which I teach at a private school. I have an AP Honors Diploma and AP Scholar with Distinction Award from high school.
I am very friendly and take great pleasure in helping others to understand new concepts and excel in their studies or entrance exams.
Legal training at UNC Chapel Hill taught Jean to construct arguments that are airtight — a skill she now applies to teaching thesis development, paragraph structure, and revision strategies. Whether a student is drafting a personal narrative or a research paper, she zeroes in on clarity and logical flow, breaking down each draft into manageable, improvable pieces.
Strong writing is really clear thinking on paper — and Jeff's philosophy training at Princeton was essentially a four-year boot camp in constructing airtight arguments. He teaches students to build paragraphs around single claims, use evidence precisely, and cut the filler that weakens persuasive and analytical writing. His publishing industry experience adds a practical edge: he knows what polished, readable prose actually looks like outside the classroom.
From poetry to policy briefs, Cynthia has taught writing across genres at Columbia University and Central European University in Budapest. She zeroes in on clarity and concision — teaching students to build arguments sentence by sentence, choose precise language over vague generalities, and develop a revision process that actually improves each draft.
Strong writing starts with knowing what you actually want to say — then organizing it so a reader follows effortlessly. Anna approaches drafting as a process of building a clear argument or narrative arc, teaching techniques like reverse outlining and paragraph-level thesis statements that give students concrete tools. Her background spans scientific writing, academic essays, and personal narratives, so she adapts her feedback to whatever genre a student is tackling.
The gap between having an idea and expressing it clearly on the page is where most students get stuck. Reid tackles that gap by teaching concrete techniques — thesis construction, paragraph transitions, evidence integration — rather than vague advice like "be more specific." His sociology and education background means he's equally comfortable coaching a persuasive essay or a research paper.
The hardest part of writing isn't grammar — it's figuring out what you're actually trying to say and then organizing evidence around that claim. Brittney tackles this by teaching students to outline arguments before drafting, develop thesis statements that do real analytical work, and revise with purpose. Her Princeton training in Comparative Literature means she's comfortable coaching writing across disciplines, from personal narratives to research papers.
Getting ideas onto the page is only half the challenge; organizing them into an argument that actually builds is where most writers stall. Talia teaches outlining techniques and paragraph architecture — topic sentences that do real work, evidence integration, transitions that aren't just "furthermore" — drawn from her own extensive writing across political science and history coursework.
Most writing instruction tells students what good writing looks like without showing them how to get there. Valerie reverses that — she starts with a student's messy first draft and teaches concrete moves: how to build an argument with evidence, vary sentence rhythm, and revise with purpose. Her twenty pre-college writing prizes came from exactly that process of drafting and reworking.
Between her Johns Hopkins master's work and her aspirations as a freelance writer, Rachel has logged thousands of hours producing research papers, personal narratives, and professional communications. She breaks the writing process into concrete, repeatable steps — brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising — so students build habits that transfer to any assignment they encounter.
