I am an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, working towards a pre-med double major in Psychology and Biology (with a specialization in Neuroscience). Beginning in my early teens, I began working and volunteering as a tutor in a variety of environments: I began as a volunteer at a summer program for underprivileged children at the Learning and Tutoring Center of East Austin, and since I have worked as a private elementary school tutor, a private SAT-prep tutor, and a preschool tutor for the Neighborhood Schools Program in South Side Chicago. I have taken, and succeeded in, a broad range of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, and am familiar with the latest formats, question varieties, and scoring guidelines of these standardized tests, along with the SAT. My teaching philosophy is to go beyond "teaching to the test". Although test-taking skills are crucial for any assessment, I believe the most valuable thing a tutor can do is to enhance and help develop conceptual understanding in our clients. I believe that once a student understands something at the conceptual level, he or she will be much better prepared for the topic, not only in the specific test we are preparing for, but anywhere else it may come up. Memorizing words or equations might help somebody in the short term, but understanding why that word means what it means, or what an equation is actually depicting is worth the extra effort. Besides test-prep I think I can be a great help in writing and editing, as I have experience in everything from short, timed essays such as the SAT essay, to college essays, to research papers such as the IB Extended Essay. I am fully fluent in Spanish for anyone who wishes to communicate in or practice the language.

I am excited to try and help others get better and appreciate these subjects as much as I do. In my spare time, I enjoy building up by cooking language skills (currently working on Spanish and Japanese), drawing and reading manga in addition to piles and piles of books.

I'm passionate about guiding high schoolers through the college application process. The admissions process is probably one of the most confusing, anxiety-inducing experiences you'll have in high school, but I'm full of ideas for making the entire process as successful and stress-free as possible. I've successfully guided many students through every stage of admissions -- from figuring out where to apply and then staying organized and on-track, to "packaging" themselves and producing a perfect personal statement -- and I love witnessing them achieve their admissions dreams.

I am a graduate of Brandeis University, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in History and Psychology. I am also a recent graduate of University College London, where I received my Master of Science in Child Development. I have been tutoring for several years, beginning in high school when I tutored as part of the community service component of the International Baccalaureate Program. I have since then continued tutoring in various subjects and at a range of levels. Some of my favorite subjects include English, Math (up through the Algebra II level), Social Sciences, and SAT/ACT preparation. I enjoy contributing to the success of my students and seeing them improve in their skills, scores, and attitude towards learning. I make a point of getting to know each student so I can meet his or her specific needs and teach in a compatible style. Most of all, I make my lessons engaging and interactive and focus on genuine learning rather than rote memorization. In my spare time I enjoy travel, cooking, reading, running, and writing.

I am proud to say that the eleven-year-old Vietnamese girl and boy that I tutored for 5 years are both attending Medical school. In addition, I am proud to say that I speak, write and read in French, English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Italian proficiently. Whenever I tell people that I speak French, they often assume that it is not my mother tongue language because I have no accent in English. I am always proud to say that I did not know how to speak English until I was 16 years of age. Learning a language is like cracking a secret code. Once you decode it, the treasure is yours.

I am an attorney in the Orlando area and twice-graduate of the University of Florida. I obtained my BA in English with a concentration in critical writing and film, and continued on to law school to obtain my JD. Before college I completed the rigorous International Baccalaureate program with a higher level concentration in Psychology and completed my Extended Essay in English.

I am currently a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master's program at Nova Southeastern University, and I received my B.A. in English with a minor in Spanish from the University of Miami in 2016. I am a native speaker of English and Russian. Throughout the course of my education, I have helped my fellow students improve their analytical and writing skills through collaboration. I am able to tutor a broad range of subjects, including standardized test preparation, English literature up to the college level, essay and academic writing and grammar, Russian and Spanish language skills. Having scored in the top percentiles on the verbal and essay writing sections of standardized tests, such as the SAT and GRE, I also possess the perspective and expertise to help others excel on these and similar exams. I am a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures with a focus on Russian, Russian Literature, and International Relations. Since graduating, I have worked at a YMCA Learning Center as a Preschool Teacher Assistant, camp counselor, after-school counselor, art program leader and childcare provider for all ages. I tutored children (K-8) in the after-school program in all subjects, overseeing study time and assisting students with homework. I also worked as a data analyst for the Data Recognition Corporation: reading, assessing and scoring standardized tests in a variety of subjects for grades K-12. I worked on WIDA projects where I evaluated and scored English proficiency tests (verbal and written) for multilingual learners. As a WIDA analyst, I gained insight into the national system of standardized testing. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am especially interested in Literature, Language, History and Philosophy. I am now pursuing a B.S. in computer science as well as a B.A. in studio art, with minors in mathematics and public health. I feel that my artistic practice has shaped my teaching, pushing me to take a creative, non-rigid approach to education -- I believe in working closely with my students to create individualized plans that cater to their specific learning needs.

I am currently a senior in the Honors program, on track to graduate summa cum laude, and approaching completion of an undergraduate thesis on my work in the university's nanotechnology lab.

I am a law student, but I took an unusual route to get there. I used to attend medical school but had a change of heart in my career path. Part of this was due to my political science major (double major with biology) in college as well as a number of Spanish and other courses that I took. I am a graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelors of Arts in English and Philosophy. At Notre Dame, I worked as a tutor at the University Writing Center, helping both undergraduate and graduate students with their writing. I am currently a neuroscience PhD student at Columbia University. I majored in English and Psychology from Brown University, with a 4.0 and honours in Psychology. Following this, I worked at a lab at UPenn for three years, slowly transitioning to software engineering and computational neuroscience.

I am a rising Junior at Princeton University who is passionate about the ways in which people learn, which has led me to pursue a degree in Neuropsychology. Through great experiences teaching English in Chiangmai, Thailand for two months and tutoring Calculus I and II through Princeton University's McGraw Tutoring program for two years, I have come across many learning styles and have developed a love for teaching. My strengths include standardized testing, Spanish, Mathematics (Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus) and ACT/SAT/CLEP prep. I am interested in becoming involved in educational policy at the national level later on in my life. Teaching is a joy that has always rivaled the happiness I receive from reading a great poem or communicating in another language. English and French literature are the two great passions of my life, and it is when I'm teaching that I feel most like I am doing meaningful and rewarding work. When I'm not reading poetry or practicing my French, I like boogie-boarding (a recently acquired skill), hiking, baking (often French desserts), and knitting.

I am an exceptional writing tutor. I have numerous scholarly articles published as well as editorial experience on an academic journal. I have two published books as well. I also tutor for the PSAT/SAT/ACT, as well as helping students with their college essays. My students and their education are very important to me. I enjoy helping them achieve their objectives. I am a graduate of McGill University and have a double major in Chemistry and English Literature. In the two years post college, I taught in two different school districts through AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps.
