I am a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). I received my Bachelor's of Science in Chemical Engineering. I am driven by an implacable urge to learn, explore, communicate and share knowledge with others. I now work as a high school biology and chemistry teacher at different levels with several years of experience : College Preparatory, Honors, and AP. I (primarily) tutor quantitative subjects : especially math, biology, and chemistry. I am also available to tutor SAT, ACT, and AP standardized testing material. Recreationally, I enjoy figure skating, running, and practicing yoga.

I love literature and reading and writing -- they've been central to my life since early childhood -- and I hope as a tutor not only to help students improve their skills in these areas but to instill in them a similar kind of lifelong affection for these pursuits. I believe that reading and writing are key not only to enjoying a broadly fulfilling and exciting life but also to performing effectively in virtually any kind of serious job. As a kid, my dream was to become a writer of fiction -- novels and stories -- and I majored in English and creative writing in college. But then it was literature that led my life to take a different, unexpected path. At Princeton, I had to write a senior thesis, and the topic I chose was native American prose literature -- novels, poems and other writings that hugely enhanced the love of nature and wilderness that I had already acquired through hiking and camping trips with my father. Instead of wanting to write fiction, I became an environmental advocate, and wanted to write about wilderness and environmental issues. So, I moved from the East Coast to Montana for graduate school, where I studied wilderness and wildlife management issues and earned a Master's degree in natural resource conservation. For decades ever since I have made my living primarily as a communicator, through writing as well as public speaking. Every job I've had depended on my ability to write well, from working as an editor of technical research papers for the US Forest Service; as communications director for an environmental protection group; as a press secretary in a Presidential campaign; as an international publicist for a PR firm in New York City; as an aide in the Montana Governor's Office; and as a self-employed lobbyist and campaign manager for numerous large corporations and small nonprofit groups. I also taught public and media relations at Carroll College in Montana and have done a fair amount of freelance writing along the way, with essays published in diverse outlets including Western Wildlands, the Journal of Soil & Water Conservation, Range magazine and Playboy. My love of reading and literature has never ceased. I am always reading at least one good book at a time, and I still write almost daily. On the side, I recently have edited two books for publication and have written several grant proposals. I look forward to sharing my passion for learning with students through the Varsity Tutors program.

I am a writer who works extensively with historical documents and researcher who embraces learning for life. I love making a subject engaging, interesting and ultimately seeing others succeed in their endeavors.

I am an English instructor dedicated to enriching the lives of my students. I hold a BA in English Language and Literature from The University of Chicago and an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School. Over the years, I have merged my love of language and literature with my long-standing commitment to the welfare of children and young adults. In addition to tutoring, I have worked as a substitute teacher, classroom aide, afterschool mentor, and teaching artist. I have also recently served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Taiwan. From these experiences, I have developed a fluid understanding of teaching methods and a keen sense of students' diverse learning styles. I can tutor various English subjects, such as PreK-12 ELA curricula, ELL literacy, composition, creative writing, and ESL (conversational English) instruction; I also offer writing support to new and prospective college students, helping them craft effective admissions essays and persuasive course papers. Essentially as an educator, I believe in fostering a holistic, student-centered teaching/learning environment that prioritizes curiosity, inquiry, critical thought, and conversation. I aim to actively inspire and empower my students, equipping them with the tools to thrive throughout their academic journey.

I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Economics and German. After graduating this coming May, I will be working in the consulting industry. Along with Economics and German, I have a strong background in a math, several AP subjects, and ACT test prep. I look forward to working with you!

My students and I work as a team to produce the best platform for learning My focus on reading started early on when I realized that through reading my mind would store so much information and that information could be used to help with all other subjects in school. My goal as a tutor is to help a student assess their strengths, identify their areas of need, formulate a plan to address these areas and assist them in achieving mastery in their desired subject. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Memphis, Tennessee. I have been working in education for over 15 years. In addition, I have spent over 2 years teaching English as a Second Language online. I have also spent time tutoring students in English and Math, as well as helping to prepare for Standardized Tests, such as the Graduate Exit Exam and the ACT.

Hello! My name is Aleks and I am a MSEd student at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. I am originally from the Northwest side of Chicago, and grew up attending public schools and Polish Catholic school on the weekends. I graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and a Minor in European Studies and am very interested in international relations, research, and education policy. Most of my experience stems from mentorship and teaching roles in formal and informal learning spaces, providing college access, reading, math, and writing support to students K-12 as well as adult learners. As a student teacher, I am constantly exploring new teaching strategies and have particularly found a lot of joy working with bilingual and multilingual learners! My background as a native Polish speaker and first generation student has informed my path to supporting learners in building confidence in their rich linguistic repertoires.

I am currently a student at Rice University studying both History and Neuroscience. Being the oldest of five kids, working with younger students has always been a part of my life. I can tutor a wide variety of subjects, but I specialize in writing, public speaking, and test taking. My goal for every tutoring session is to give students large-scale takeaways that they can apply in their academic future, maximizing the efficiency of every session.

I am studying Spanish in Mexico after two years teaching English in Guadeloupe, France to sharpen my foreign language skills and ESL teaching capabilities in preparation for multilingual and multicultural educational spaces. Upon my return to the United States, I will pursue my teaching license in secondary history. Thus, I am passionate about teaching History, English, and French. I also excel at teaching and academic writing. In addition to my experience guiding students in traditional classrooms, I have taught yoga for the past two years. This has involved planning classes for large groups in addition to providing personal assists to students throughout their practice. With my experience teaching others in both the traditional academic classroom and the nontraditional yoga classroom, I have learned there is no better way to assist others in their growth than meeting individuals exactly where they are. As a result, my teaching and tutoring styles are designed to capitalize upon what students already know so that they may build upon said knowledge and achieve more. Further, my teaching and tutoring are based on our humanity as people and thus there is plenty of conversation, inquiry, and room for mistakes. I believe education is an opportunity for creating possibilities, and as such I couldn't be more grateful to help others imagine their future possibilities.

I graduated from Manchester College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. While obtaining my undergraduate education, I volunteered with the Family Tree Child Development Center, where I enjoyed reading to the children and working with the teachers. I also volunteered in the Mother Baby Unit, helping the nurses and new moms! Upon completing my Biology degree, I interned at a hospital in the Microbiology lab. My classroom experience includes elementary substitute teaching and being an Instructional Assistant. I've worked with children who are advanced or struggling in small groups to reach academic standards. Following IEPs, and working with teachers, staff and parents to help students achieve goals, have been the most motivating to me.

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Engineering from Northwestern University, where I honed my analytical skills and developed a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. With over 5 years of tutoring experience, I have successfully guided middle and high school students through challenging material, adapting my teaching methods to meet their individual needs. I believe in breaking down complex problems into manageable parts, which not only enhances comprehension but also builds confidence. Witnessing my students grow academically and personally is incredibly rewarding, and I strive to create a supportive environment where every learner feels empowered to succeed.
