I am currently an attorney in private practice, but have not lost my love of learning and my love of teaching. Tutoring is now my outlet for those passions.

I am originally from New York so, while I loved living in Nashville, I decided that I wanted to move back to New York to receive my Master's degree. I am currently attending Teachers College, Columbia University and I am in a dual Elementary Inclusive Education and Special Education program. I have been working with kids in varied settings such as in classrooms, tutoring groups, one-on-one, in camps, and more, since I was in high school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects and grades, I am most passionate about teaching Reading and Math at the Elementary level. Part of the reason I am drawn to the field of education is because teachers must be life-long learners. I am aim to foster a love of learning in my student. This, I believe, leads to intrinsic motivation. In my spare time I enjoy reading, traveling, cooking, and staying active.

I am starting graduate school in September of 2024 (PhD in clinical psychology at UMass Boston). Throughout high school, I tutored all subjects at a nearby elementary school. I also tutored another high school student in Spanish, at the request of my Spanish teacher. Before college, I took a gap year to pursue music. During the gap year, I tutored a neighborhood seventh-grade girl in math and writing. Over the years, I have come to better understand how much I enjoy providing one-on-one support to children. I have been particularly successful in helping children who easily get frustrated and lose patience. As a recent student, I would be very excited to help others feel confident in their schoolwork. I understand the stress and frustration that can come with academics, and I would love to help students turn those feelings into pride, confidence, and enjoyment of learning. I am a graduate of SUNY University at Albany. I received my Bachelor of Science in Economics and Japanese with a minor in History in 2010. Since then (and even before as a sub) I have predominantly been teaching in the New York City public education system. I had worked as a substitute teaching assistant since 2008, moving between dozens of NYC public schools before finally settling in late 2011 at M.S. 216 George J. Ryan--an incredibly diverse middle school in Queens. During my tenure in the school system I have spent time teaching students from Pre-K to 12th grade, from all cultural background and socioeconomic statuses. Regardless of whom I have taught, I have always enjoyed it, partly because I often learn as much from my students as they learn from me. Regardless of the subject, I love teaching, and I find it to be one of the most rewarding and meaningful activities, which cliched as it may sound, really can make a difference in people's lives. Besides teaching, I am also keenly interested in the human body, specifically biomechanics, kinesiology, and rehabilitation through movement. I am a graduate of USC's School of Dramatic Arts with a B.A. in Theatre and a minor in Musical Theatre. I love traveling, and was lucky enough to spend an entire year of my college career studying abroad in London. I studied Shakespeare and the classics and appeared in several productions while in London, all of which have contributed to my love of words. My passion for the arts extends to working with children and young adults. I have been a choreographer for middle school musicals for several years. I love working with kids, and have experience tutoring middle school students in Spanish, tutoring high school students in the ACT and SAT Verbal sections, guiding students through essay writing, and have worked with children with learning and behavioral disabilities, including those with ADHD and on the Autism spectrum.

Originally from St. Louis, MO, I come from a family of educators and am an aspiring inclusive classroom teacher myself. I am currently pursuing a masters degree in social work at the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration. I am passionate about tutoring because I want everyone to be able to perform academically at their highest possible level. I also think it is important that learning is not just for one assignment or one test, but rather that it sticks with you to build a solid foundation of knowledge and confidence that you can carry forward. My favorite subjects to tutor include English, SAT test preparation, math, and psychology. My approach to tutoring is to meet the student where they're at and go from there. I find that this way we can build a productive tutoring relationship where I can help individualize learning to each person's particular learning style. Outside of academic interests, I enjoy cooking, being with friends and family, traveling the world, and looking as ridiculous as possible doing Zumba.

During this time I also received my Masters in Mild to Moderate Disabilities from Simmons College. I have worked extensively with students with a range of abilities, including students with specific learning disabilities, emotional impairments, dyslexia, and ADHD. My teaching experience has given me a deep understanding of the knowledge and habits essential to academic success and has given me the opportunity to hone a variety of strategies that ensure students at each level can achieve their academic goals. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite ones are Reading, Elementary/Middle School Math, History, and Test Prep. In my experience, tutoring is the most rewarding when a student has that "aha!" moment and achieves a new level of understanding and confidence in his/her abilities.
