I believe in the power of patient and passionate educators such as myself to inspire, challenge, and invigorate pupils to conquer new academic horizons, thus increasing any individual pupil's chances for success down their own chosen paths of study or within the profession of their choosing. I believe that humility and respect on my part create an environment where learning can happen on both sides of the tutor/pupil relationship, and through said humility and open-mindedness an ideal educational bond will inevitably form.I am ready to listen to your individual academic needs (or those of your child), and my expertise in Reading, Writing, Spanish and Literature, cultivated over a rigorous academic career, renders me an ideal candidate to help YOU with whatever you might need. I have no preconceived agenda other than listening to your specific needs (or those of your child), and catering to those needs with all the tools in my academic tool-box.I am incredibly hard-working, diligent, and thorough, but most of all I believe in the student's ability to expand his or her own horizons when presented with the environment and opportunity to do so. Therein lies the pupil's power, and I guarantee, with my help, improvement in the subject with which you or your child are struggling within a few sessions. If academic success is what you seek, look no further for the ideal candidate to help you or your child along that journey. I am that candidate. Thanks for taking the time to read my statement, and I hope to work closely with you or your child soon.

I graduated with a BA in History from Haverford College and lived and worked in Asia for over 20 years. During this period, I lived and traveled to major financial centers around the world from New York to Seoul and London. I was able to change careers to education almost 10 years ago, receiving a California teaching credential for middle school and high school English and Social Science. I taught middle school English and history for five years and was a vice principal of a high school for two years. I also taught Korean culture and language as an elective. My students experienced massive growth in California State testing for the English section thanks to a writing rubric I created to ensure success. As for my Korean class, 10% of my students would be able to read and write Korean after a semester of learning Korean. English Only learners benefit from my English classes because I approach English as an English learner who has learned how to express thoughts effectively in spoken and written English. Korean students learn about Korean language and culture from an American/Western context which helps them make connections to their daily life. I am fully bi-lingual and bi-cultural in English and Korean. I would like to meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to go. Our interaction in the classroom promises to be rich, engaging, and empowering.

I am a seasoned educator with 25 years of experience working with children in the public school system grades K-6. I grew up in Texas and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Learning and Development, Elementary Theater Arts and Generic Special Education. I continued my education when I moved to Wisconsin in 1997 and graduated from The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Master's in Early Childhood Special Education. In June of 2021 I retired from my local school district after a 21 year career in special education. After graduating from UT Austin I began working as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher and have worked in various special education positions K-6 throughout my career. I also was part of the creation and start-up of our district's 4K program and I am trained and worked as a math interventionist at the 5th and 6th grade level.Throughout my career I was viewed by others as an insightful motivator and cheerleader for my students. I have a proven track record of success, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to empower others to work together to find and deliver results. I strongly believe all children can learn and will put in the effort needed to make that happen. On a personal note, I have 3 grown children and a new grandbaby that was born in April 2021. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, my dog, and my friends as well as reading and traveling.

I hail from the greater Chicago area, and I am a senior at DePaul University studying Computer Science and Game Development. While programming is exciting to me, one of my other passions is teaching the math and science subjects that accompany Computer Science. I learned very early on that it wasn't the material that was most essential to learning, but it is the proper learning environment that really pushes students to do their best. That is the goal of my tutoring sessions: to create an environment where it's great to ask questions, and perfectly okay to not quite get it at first.

Conversational German Tutor • +6 Subjects
I am a native from Germany and received all my degrees from German universities. I finished my legal studies with an equivalent of a bachelor and masters at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Germany. Later, I finished a 2-semester study in European Advanced Studies with a graduate level certificate. My latest degree is a Ph.D. in Law from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz with an emphasis on European Law. Several years ago I started to work with children and came to love it. I gained my first experience in a child care facility as a classroom volunteer, later I extended it to tutoring in elementary school classrooms, and to leading scout groups of various ages, which I still do. My tutoring experience is broad and I loved and still love every part of it, but my passion is, for sure, to teach my native language of German. I believe that there is a way for every student to understand and learn something even if it seems to be too boring or complicated. While finding the right positive learning style for a student I also think it is critical to practice, practice and practice to master one little step after the other to gain confidence for the next level. In my spare time I enjoy reading, going camping and experimenting with bread recipes.

While receiving my double-major in Spanish and Political Science at Central College I lived abroad in Spain and Mexico - increasing my fluency of Spanish and deepening my knowledge of the two Spanish-speaking cultures. After graduating, I lived as a resident ESL and Life Skills teacher for refugee families just entering the United States and also traveled extensively throughout Latin America as a student of life and language. My life partner is from Mexico, so he and I get to play with two languages everyday as well! My current work as a homeless shelter host in Portland, Oregon also allows me to engage clients in Spanish every time I work. I consider myself lucky to be able to use and develop my languages at work and in the home, as the refining process of learning a language is my favorite part of being bilingual!Whether it is English or Spanish I am speaking, sharing my passion for language is an innate character of mine that propels my teaching philosophy. Learning a new language or refining one already known can open up an entire new world to a student. It not only makes one more qualified and desirable to employers, but also enables one to include oneself in the innerworkings of an entire cultural context! Traveling or living in a foreign country that speaks one's second language becomes an enriching and eye opening experience instead of being left in the dark. I love invigorating tutoring sessions with applicable life skills that engage not only the language being learned, but also the associated culture. My experience in teaching Spanish and ESL ranges from 5 year old refugee children that can neither read nor write, to young immigrant mothers with a slight grasp of English, to fluent English speakers who want to hone their Spanish speaking skills. When I am not attempting to conjugate verbs in the subjunctive tense in Spanish, one can find me running on trails, doing yoga, creating a crowd funding website for trail runners, reading about Eastern and philosophy, tending a vegetable and herb garden, riding my 1980s bike, drinking too much coffee, cooking a new recipe, and spending time with loved ones. In all I do, I aspire to inspire, create, and give gratitude. I like to live by the words of a favorite poet, Rumi, ''With Life as short as a half-taken Breath, don't plant anything but Love.''
