Through my professional experience as a Special Education middle school teacher, I have developed a unique toolkit of strategies to support students in mastering new and challenging skills. Central to my philosophy as an educator is the fact that all students are unique. These differences are not synamous with disadvantages. Different learning styles or varied personal interests are things to celebrate.By immediately identifying and leveraging an individual's strengths, I have helped students successfully overcome their weaknesses. With diverse strategies such as the use of mathematical models, pre-writing graphic organizers, and mnemonic self-monitoring reading strategies, my students have developed the ability to successfully demonstrate their knowledge.Through the use of formal and informal data collection, I am able to evaluate my successes and failures. Just as I say to my students, "failure is not final". Using my data, I am able to model resilience to my students by adapting my approach to best meet the individual needs of the student. In addition to my aforementioned pedagogical toolkit, I am a passionate learner. WIth my varied educational, professional, and personal experiences, I am able to tutor in a variety of content areas. Through my graduate education and experience as a teacher, I have expertise in teaching basic literacy through advanced algebraic math. My undergraduate experiences in Anthropology prepare me to support learners in writing organized, concise, and well-researched essays. Finally, my patience and love of learning equip me with the necessary characteristics to excel as a Varsity tutor.

I am a recent college grad working in one of the largest IT Healthcare firms in the US. While working, I intend to return to college for a Bachelors of Art in German, and in doing so, am putting myself in the shoes of those I hope to help. During my college career, I found myself helping a variety of people with a number of subjects ranging from history to science to writing- not to mention the number of programs I helped debug and the number of people I worked with to remember a variety of tenants that make up today's IT world.

A superior education brings together critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity to better enrich our own lives and those around us. This is why I chose to go into the field of English teaching as the subject brings together those aspects of learning to fulfillment. In my time working with students, I have always seen the experience as rewarding and enriching through my years of working as a high school tutor, completing a year of student teaching, and finishing my college program at the University of Utah. After earning my Bachelors of English Teaching, I went to graduate school to obtain my Masters of Education, along with teaching license.I have been tutoring in secondary English Language Arts (ELA) for the last two years as well as taught secondary ELA in my student teaching. I covered subjects from the basics of grammar and writing mechanics to critical theory and Shakespeare. I love finding the interesting aspects of English and how they relate our world as a whole and connect across time to bring a deeper understanding of importance. With tutoring, I enjoy a conversational approach along the lines of the assignment to bring to light new ideas and understanding for students and myself. I look forward to working together!

My experience in education spans multiple formats such as counselor for summer research camps, teaching assistant for college courses, tutor for college courses, and dance instructor. These different positions have pushed me to broaden my perspective on how to communicate with students and address the topics they do not understand. While my educational background has more than prepared me to understand the basics of the science subjects that my students were studying, my goal as an instructor reaches beyond simply teaching the lesson; I also aim to spark my student's interests in the subject and make the lesson fun for them. I know from personal experience that learning any lesson is easier when one is interested and enjoys the learning experience. To that effect, I use concepts and analogies that relate to the students and grab their interests, and this relation may be from other topics or courses they have previously studied or an experience they come across on a daily basis. The latter is especially effective since that daily experience would serve to reinforce the lessons for the students and commit it to memory. These techniques, along with others, work well for tutoring since we often must cover a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time.

Hi, I am Cassie Bishop, and for seven years, I have been dedicated to helping students of different age groups (from middle school to college) in mostly math and science. As someone driven to become a professor, I love to teach and have a great passion for sharing my knowledge with others! I am most passionate about math and hard sciences, such as biology, chemistry, and physics and have most experience tutoring middle school, high school, and college students. My mission is to develop students' problem-solving skills so that they can get to the answers on their own to not only improve their homework scores but also help on quizzes and tests through better knowledge of the material. I am a neuroscience PhD graduate student at Northwestern university. I obtained my B.A. degree from Bryn Mawr College in Biology and Computer Science. I have a passion for education and firmly believe that education can change lives and provide the upward social mobility. I love interacting with students and building connections with them on a personal level. I prefer to teach students the learning method and thinking process, rather than just the answer. I am good at guiding students and letting them come up with the answer by themselves. In college, I am a TA for a Calculus 1 class, helping students understand difficult concepts and prepare for tests. Last summer, I traveled back to China and tutored math for standardized testing such as the SAT Subject Math and AP Calculus. Helping struggling students achieve high scores in standardized testing has been one of the most rewarding experiences - it boosts students' confidence and at the same time gives them the desire to learn more and tackle harder problems.Chinese is my native language. As a Chinese tutor, I enjoy helping students not only achieve desirable scores in standardized testing, but also use the language to communicate. I believe the key to learning a new language is to practice, practice, and practice. I love seeing my students gain confidence in speaking this beautiful language.

As an educator and youth development specialist, I excel at working with my students to achieve their goals. With years of full-time classroom teaching experience and numerous roles as a tutor, I know that I can help my students master the SAT, GMAT, and other subjects. At Middlebury College, I pursued a Political Science major and Economics minor, focusing on international development. During my undergraduate years, I also worked in Harlem tutoring students in math, literacy, the SAT, and essay writing. After earning my B.A., I moved to California to teach at an inner-city charter school. There I worked directly with under-performing students in one-on-one and small group settings. I honed my ability to explain even the most challenging material in simple terms and to motivate the most disheartened students to try again. In September 2012, I began my work in Rwanda with the United States Peace Corps. The only Westerner living in Kinazi sector, I integrated myself into community life and tried to build a better understanding of the priorities, goals, and daily challenges of the rural poor in Rwanda. I taught high school English but, working in a village school, I had few resources. I developed my own curriculum based on the skills I saw my students needed most and created teaching material that made lessons dynamic and fun. The level of need I saw in my neighbors, students and colleagues motivated me to go beyond my primary teaching assignment and explore a more sustainable approach to economic development. I identified the potential of business to create long-term solutions to the hardships I saw in my village and started a social enterprise designed to make both a profit and a positive impact on the community. Because of my experience in Rwanda, I will be pursuing an MBA in the near future. Not only do I have a background in education and excellent test scores, but I am also a strong believer in the ability of my students to see radical improvements in their test performances. I am passionate about teaching and approach my work with patience and creativity. I am determined to see my students reach their full potential!

I have a B.A. in English Language and Literature, and in Cinema and Media Studies from The University of Chicago, and an M.A. in Film Studies from The University of Iowa, where I also spent two years as a T.A., teaching undergraduate courses in film studies and related fields. I firmly believe that self-confidence, far more than ambition or natural aptitude, is the greatest determinant of success in an academic setting. By "confidence" I mean not only confidence in ones mastery of topical material, but, more fundamentally, confidence in ones ability to learn and think independently. As an instructor, I am dedicated to helping students succeed because I know from my own experiences as a student that, at every level of education, from elementary to graduate school, the support and encouragement of a passionate teacher can turn a diffident or apathetic underachieving student into a classroom star.My favorite subject to tutor is standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, GRE, etc.) because such tests cover a finite body of material that can be taught and mastered. In addition to test prep, I also tutor a number of English related subjects (including Writing, Literature, Essay Editing, and Grammar), and offer help with Study Skills and Organization. In my free time, I enjoy reading, music, travel, and photography.
